#1: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Stigter, Location: NorthwestPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:29 am ---- Hi
Can someone tell me if a standard 206 gti 180 makes a lot of induction noise -
I can hear air rushing ----- AFTER bliping the throttle and the revs are coming DOWN -
The noise is to the left (drivers side of the engine) so away from the airbox etc. so I am very puzzled
Many thanks in advance.

#3: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:40 am ---- No the standard 180 does not make much noise. The air blower unit for the EGR system (passenger wheel arch) can sometimes make a whining/ whistling noise especially if you've uprated the inlet but an intake noise coming from the drivers side? Sure its not just because you've got the vents on that side so the noise sounds like its coming out from that side?
Have you checked to make sure the breather pipe that comes off the head is fitted securely? Any EML on?

Give us a clue as I not sure where that is

Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:17 am ---- Take the acoustic cover off the head, there's a valve which sits in next to the cam covers (silver in color, pipe comes out the bottom of it), check the plastic clip as that sometimes fails, the pipe can be traced all the way into the passenger wheel arch where it meets the air puller motor for the anti pollution system.

GTI180 doesnt have EGR.
It does have a valve in the arch for the cold air to come in from though (I pressume that was what he means), weather that is called an EGR i dont know.
#8: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:01 am ---- Yes I meant anit pollution system (Peugeot Service Box calls it EGR even though it does not recirculate the exhaust gas but hey, thats Pug for you.)
The pipework I mentioned has a plastic 'oush to release' tag on it and that is known to break on them, hence it might possibly be causing the air noise.
#9: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Stigter, Location: NorthwestPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:24 am ---- I took the cover off the engine - had a good look around- can you explain where in this picture I need to look?
#10: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:49 am ---- Oil filler cap, directly left of it at the end of the head, pipe with the blue push and release clip on it underneath the coil pack wiring loom.
#11: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:50 am ---- * right, not left, apologies. directly right of the cap, on the passenger side of the head
#12: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Stigter, Location: NorthwestPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 12:02 pm ---- You talking about this little lot?
Checked it all seems ok.
Wonder if it could be the manifold or cat/exhaust and just sounds worst from the drivers side
#13: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: rttam, Location: devonPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 12:18 pm ---- is it when you first start up as could be the cold start airpump behind the n/s/f foglight will run for a couple of mins till the engine warms up then stop
#14: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Stigter, Location: NorthwestPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 12:19 pm ---- Nope - Its comming from the drivers side (or if your looking at the engine from the front the left side)
#15: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: Stigter, Location: NorthwestPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 2:44 pm ---- Is there a common issue with exhausts leaking on the 206 gti 180 anywhere - car sounds like its blowing somewhere - could it be from the manifold?
#16: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: jayz206gti, Location: TamworthPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:13 pm ---- Take it to a garage to be looked at mate. Its impossible to diagnose the problem over a forum really.
#17: Re: 206 GTI 180 HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Author: gpvecchi, Location: ItalyPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:21 pm ---- I had a sound similar to yours in my RC. Try removing the engine plastic cover; if noise goes away, put some "black sponge with adesive" (sorry, but I don't know how to call it in english) right upon the six fixing point upon engine head cover. Make a little cross-shaped cut in them to make the plastic screws pass through them. It's plastic vibrating, but noise is very similar to induction noise...

Checked it without the cover when looking for issue - still the same without it on.

The point of a problem thread is to at first exhaust (pardon the pun! lol) every possible persons experience on the forum that might be kind enough to invest time in helping a 206info fellow member -
I have had it up on a ramp and couldn't find leak - that why just wanted to know if any issues with manifolds cracking etc..
Think we all know we can take it to a garage-
Imagine every thread closed with - took it to garage - resolved. lol
I know what you mean - it can be hard to find issues- best to give it to a garage but just checking first Jayz.

My exhaust always seems to be blowing, seems to always be around the flexi to the manifold joint, kind of seems pointless fixing it as it always comes back, which I believe is caused by the amount of movement in the engine mounts which Im told is normal on these forums for a 180.
