pull up apply handbrake BANG! handbrake cable snaps so only got left hand side holding the car now
rush round the garages earliest can fit me in is monday and will cost £70 for both sides including labour
bad times car also gets cambelt and waterpump done tomorrow gonna be a hard month and only just started

Handbrake is only really needed if your brake pipes burst while your driving, and even then you could slow down using engine braking.

i always use both gears and handbrake
but for them 6months it was fine on gears
