I have just baught a 206 1.4 8v and my rev counter reads 6000 when its idling and sometimes it shows nothing any ideas on what is causing this. What could i do to rectify this fault.

You will need to let people know what year the car is, and if it is a Multiplex (chunky indicator/wiper/radio stalks) or a Pre-Plex (Skinny Indicator/wiper/radio Stalks)

No, on a '99 it would be pre-plexed.

I am not 100% (but someone will correct me) but you may need a new/2nd hand instrument cluster.

This is a common fault, so if you do a search (top left corner) and see what you can find. You will probably be able to solve your problem without putting up your own post

What does the live data read?

If you need a new cluster, it needs yo be one of a similar.mileage to yours.

eBay would be your best bet.

Maybe a local scrapyard?

Would it matter if i put a different model one in or has it have to be a glx one like the one that's on the car at the moment ?

It doesn't matter too much, but if you get one from a lower spec car it might not have some of the functions (i.e Rev Counter/Oil Pressure Guage) I don't know what spec comes with what so you will have to look that up yourself!

As long as it is from a Preplexed one, then it should be fine

Not a problem,

Lee will correct me if I am wrong as he knows his stuff.

Don't take what I say as gospel though, until you have double checked (Or Lee tells you!)

I had an erratic rev counter once which also did nothing at times and it was down to a cracked ABS Ring.

Just need to fix your cluster motor. If u diamantle your speedo, behind the instrument, u should able to see a cluster motor with transparent casing. The main problem will be the tiny plastic pin holding the gear broke off, as the result some time your needle will stuck or even not working.

If your diy level is good, u should able to fix it. I fix both of mine speedo and rev meter by modified the broken plastic pin with a equilavent diameter metal pin (solder it in the plastice case).

If u can diamantle your speedo, i can try to help u to fix your cluster motor. Please don't try to swap your speedo motor with your rev motor although the r the same, u will risk breaking off the fragile plastic pin (it happened to me so i have to fix both).

Just message me if u need help, cause i did took pics when i fixed mine.

Could you plz post these pictures here...? I really could use some visual help on this especially with the flat cable / ribbon cable that's connected to the PCB...

This cable came loose when trying to disassemble the whole bit... Confused

Also: are the cluster motors from all the petrol types (i.e. 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6) interchangable...?

TIA

BTW it's a Jaeger T1/21KE8-JA...
