#1: High revs 206 1.6 Xs 1999 Author: Antifaith, Location: Coventry, UKPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:47 am ---- Just brought a 1999 Peugeot 206 Xs 1.6 with 26,000 mi on the clock after selling my heap of junk Ford Focus
Not sure if it's just because it's an older car and I'm not used to it or if there is something wrong with it, but I'm having to rev pretty high in every gear to get up to speed - think 4,000 revs in 5th for 70 mph - 4,000 revs for 40 mph in 3rd
It's just had a new exhaust system fitted to get it through the MOT and it is blowing a bit - could this be causing this problem due to lack of pressure, or is it just me being paranoid after having such a cruddy car for the past 4 months?
Cheers in advance

#3: Re: High revs 206 1.6 Xs 1999 Author: Antifaith, Location: Coventry, UKPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:16 am ---- yeah that's what I was thinking - 2000 revs seems way to low I'm looking at about 3000 in 3rd for 30 mph?
- how does your car perform on motorways - does 4000 rpm sound about right for 70 mph? Just seems a bit off to me but it could just be because it's an older car and I'm coming from an 05 plate focus
It seems to go like slop off a shovel from a dead start if you floor it - but just feels a bit flappy when you're trying to get it to 100

You're expecting way to much, it's only a 1.6.
As for revs I can't remember what my 1.6 did but seems quite high ish I guess.
Might just be due a good service.

Also ive got 17 inch alloys not the crappy 14 inch 1s on mine so now i just cruise along that put my foot down

Any idea if it's had a gearbox change? Could be using one from a different engine (e.g. 1.1). Wouldn't have thought your car would need to be doing 3k in 3rd to do 30 (considering my 1.4 does 40 at that rpm and gear)

1.4 has the longest gearbox in petrol 206 range

Can you fit 17's as standard? without any annoying mods to the body - I've got my eye on some 16' wolframs with black spokes and chrome trim, they look sweet as on 206's
#9: Re: High revs 206 1.6 Xs 1999 Author: Antifaith, Location: Coventry, UKPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:14 am ---- Guess it's just an old car - getting used to it the more I drive it, and liking the acceleration - even if the revs are too damn high!
#10: Re: High revs 206 1.6 Xs 1999 Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2012 10:23 am ---- On the XS, 70mph should be around 3200revs.(in 5th gear obviously..lol)
