GTi gearbox issues...
-> 206 Problems

#1: GTi gearbox issues... Author: LeeThr, Location: North West Wales PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:55 pm

My GTi gearbox seems to be having it's time of the month. At low speeds/revs it goes into gear ok, not quite as smooth as it should be but goes in. At higher speeds it either refuses to go in or takes a bit of force sometimes followed by some crunching noises.

I will be checking/changing the oil tommorow, however something tells me it wont be quite that simple. There arent any other strange sounds coming from the box.

Anybody else got any other thoughts what it could be?

did you check the gearbox mount and rod?

Havent looked under the bonnet yet.
Why would the gearbox mount have anything to do with it? And what rod?

try to drive a 206 with broken gearbox mount then you will know.

higher rev=more vibration=worse.

linkage rod

oh right will check it tommorow then. Will check the linkage but i can't see it being that as it had them all changed when the gearbox was changed a few months ago.

did it shift well if you match the rev in N first?

Havent tried doing that. Once its over around 3.5/4k revs it struggles. 2nd gear particularly. When you go really high up the rev range, you put the clutch in and try to engage the next gear and it wont go in untill the revs have come down a bit.

it won't go in go you mean it won't even go into N or just won't go into next gear?

It Goes into N fine, its just not going into the next gear properly, even on the downchanges. 2nd seems to be worst however.

Just a thought, Could it be an issue with the clutch not dissengaging properly? Hydrolics need bleeding?
