I have a Y reg roland garros. The side brake lights have stopped working. I replaced the bulbs and checked the fuses, and they look OK.
It can't be the switch, because the light in the back window is working fine.
There has been water getting into the light units, and there was some rust and corrosion on the bulb contacts, but i cleaned them off with my dremel, and made sure the bulbs make good contact.
What else could it be?

It is the standard light units.

Continuity check on fuses: Definitely OK (was pretty sure from the visual check, but doesn't hurt to be thorough)
Did a check from the connector pins on the back of the bulb board to the bulb contacts to make sure the rust and corrosion are definitely not causing a problem, and they're not (again, visually they cleaned up fine, just being thorough). Also with the bulb in i get a completed circuit through the bulb.
With the bulb board back in the car, there is simply no power getting to the brake lights.
I am checking fuses F11 and F12... are there any others that would cause the side brake lights to not work, but not affect the centre one?

Put your multimeter between the brake light cluster earth and any shiny metal body earth and you'll probably see near 12v which shows there's no earth. If so then find where the earth connects to the body and clean up the contact there.
When you have corrected your poor earth line then you should see near 0v doing the same measurement there and your brake lights will then work Last edited by Deckchair5 on Mon Mar 12, 2012 4:28 am; edited 1 time in total

On the left side, even the tail light is working, and thats the other filament on the same bulb!
I'll measure it later to confirm anyway.

Take the bulbs out and check the bulb cluster contacts for power and earth and check the bulbs continuity by looking for low resistance. Check the cluster contacts are actually connecting to the bulb by disconnecting the connector and measuring resistance through the cluster circuit from the brake light power pin to the earth pin
