Confused
Hi
1.9d - non turbo -
Starts and ticks over fine - pulls under hard throttle ok.
But!
2000 ish revs - light throttle - perios of loss of power accompanied with a "pinking" noise. ( goes on acceleration or deceleration)
and
tendancy to die on pull away under load and needs hefty acceleration

Does this ring any bells?? I'm struggling! - Thanks!
Cheers

You dont need to replace it simply pull it off and clean all the soot out of it.

Don't bother cleaning it, being a non-turbo it serves no purpose (other than NOx reduction), it simply fills the engine with crud. Un clip the pipe running from the exhaust to the valve mounted on the inlet manifold and glue a 2p or something similar over the valve. It doesn't matter which glue you use as it's simply to hold it there when you fitting the pipe back on, which clamps it any way. For good measure you can shove some rockwool (not fibreglass) insulation down the pipe (the one going to the exhaust) to clog it.

Next step enjoy a better running, cleaner engine Smile
