#1: Fuel Pump Relay Location (53 2.0L HDI) Author: tris_asd, Location: kent, ukPosted: Fri Mar 16, 2012 10:08 am ---- Where is the fuel pump relay on a 53 plate 206 2.0L HDI?
And i've been told that replacing the Fuel pump relay might be the problem. Where is the relay?
I've been told it's under the ECU, but there's nothing under there at all.
Also on this model is there any interchangeable relays I can use to see if this is the fault? Thanks

I had this problem on my 2.0 HDi. The problem was in the engine fuse box. Find the fuse for the pump, pull it out and check the terminals underneath, mine had blackened. I unclipped my fuse box, and underneath the wiring was corroding. I changed the fuse board and that solved it.
I had Exactly the same problems your having now. I had to listen for the fuel pump to prime everytime i started the car or it wouldnt start. Once started though it was fine. Have you checked the pump as well? Directly connect a battery to it and see if it works. Be carefull of sparks though!

Just looked under the ECU, and can't find any relay, or hear any relay clicking noise. Here's some photos of under the ECU. Pretty sure there's no relay here.... And I've spoken to a Pug mechanic that reckons it's most probably the relay. But obviously you're right it could be a broken wire somewhere.
So is there a relay here and I'm being a plank, or is there definitely not a relay here.
However the one behind the battery does click, is this the FP relay or not?

I haven't checked the pump because I don't know how? Some wire and wrap it round the battery terminals and touch it on the fuel pump terminals?
I can't find this relay for the life of me though. Thanks man

You can unclip the fuse board and look under there. I cant anything out for fuel relay on there. I used to have a programme with car part locations, but i cant think what it called!

To test the pump just wire a live and an earth to the correct points on the pump direct from the battery. I doubt this has gone though, im guessing Relay or wiring.

Check fuse 2 or 25 in your engine fuse fox (depending on the BM you have fitted. Fuse 2 will be 15amp, fuse 25 will be 10amp.
If you can't find the relay, it will either be built into the pump (very unlikely, depends on the ECU you have). If not, it'll be built into the ECU

Would you still hear the 'warming up' of the relay? My Hdi relay would always do this, but the fuse in the engine box was causing the problem.

As in the clicking and pump priming? Yeah you'd still hear it if it was in the ECU. Even on older models, you can hear the relays clicking inside. After the BSI shut down, you can normally hear the random relays clicking in the BSI and ECU if you listen carefully.
There are 4 different ECUs fitted to the 2.0 HDi on the 206, that's why the fuse and relay location varies depending on which one is fitted.

I've looked under the fusebox, and there's just the Maxi fuses, no relays. So i'm guessing it's in the ECU like you said. But i can't diag the fault codes myself (piece of s**t ebay diag tool i guess, won't pick anything up with scantool on my laptop)
I checked Fuse 2 (the fuel pump fuse) and switched it with another fuse and still no luck.
I did notice a random plug that isn't connected to anything just under the ABS box. Probably a red herring but thought i'd post a pic of it up. Couldn't see if it went anywhere.
