#1: knocking from rear Author: ej2_sir, Location: DerbyPosted: Sun Mar 18, 2012 2:54 pm ---- Evening all,
Right hopefully this will be the last axle related question I need to ask!
I bought an axle off someone on here and fitted it all up. Replaced wheel bearings and discs etc. Everything is fine and dandy.
When taking a sharp left corner at pace I get 2 or 3 knocks from the passenger rear corner. I get no clunks/knocks over rough ground (it did it once over a really bad crater in the road)
So I had a quick look today and there is.....
-No play in axle bearings
-With the car jacked up I cannot recreate the noise with a large plank of wood levering the wheel up and down.
-Shock absorber bushes fine
-Not exhaust/spare wheel etc
So I am quite satisfied that the beam bearings are good before I get the usual "beam knackered" comments.
Anyone shed any light on what to check next?
Im thinking shock absorber (standard items) knocking on out stroke?
ARB needs attention? (beam not lowered but unsure if rebuilt before?)
Axle mounting bushes worn? (felt a little soft when fitted)
Thanks for your thoughts Last edited by ej2_sir on Sun Mar 18, 2012 3:20 pm; edited 1 time in total
