#1: Handbrake Help! Author: alanamh, Posted: Wed Mar 21, 2012 6:55 am ---- I just parked my car up outside my house, I have to park half on the curb and it's at a slight downward gradient. When I put the handbrake on it made like a 'popping' or 'snapping' noise, I immediately released the handbrake and stopped the car rolling on the foot brake and then re applied the handbrake and took my foot off the brake, the car was stopped fine however it now feels looser than before and clicks about 5 times before it reaches the top ( i think it was only 3/4 before)
So has something snapped or was it just a funny noise? I don't want to really carry on using it if it could be something serious. Is it best just to take it to a garage and get them to check it just to be on the safe side?

Park it in gear just in case at least till you get it checked out.

You deffinatally wont want to argue with me then. I managed to snap a cable and the pin that connects the lever to the mechanism in a week.
