#1: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:22 pm ---- As the subject says... its gone from a clunking to a squeezing, a really loud squeaking, just wondering what it actually is and if its repairable if anyone knows?! It's pretty bad and you can make it squeak just by getting in/out or rocking it ever so slightly
Cant really afford a new axle at the minute so hoping it doesnt come to that lol, also there seems to be a gap on the mounting bush but not sure if its supposed to be like that?
#2: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:26 pm ---- see if the bolt on the anti roll bar plate has loosen?
there is suppose to have gap between the axle bush
#3: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:28 pm ---- Cheers will go whip the wheel off and check, thanks!
#4: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:42 pm ---- Any play at 12 and 6 on the wheels? If so the trailing arm bearings need replacing. Best to do them if there's abit of play or its a new beam. I no as mine has gone and squeaks like a bit**
#5: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:48 pm ---- Sounds like the axles screwed, mines just gone as well makes a horrific clunking and squeeking noise on the move as well as a really loud creak when its stationary .
#6: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:55 pm ---- Just had a look at the bolts and one of the b******s just sheared off!
Number 70 on the bottom right..
#7: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:58 pm ---- so i am right
#8: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:01 pm ---- so does this mean i deffo need a new axle? take it it's not safe to drive on that then haha
#9: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: glenpring, Location: KENTPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:20 pm ---- cant you drill it out and re tap it and new bolt in job done and not much cost
#10: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:22 pm ---- Not sure if its worth it though if the axle needs replacing anyway, dont suppose you know anywhere that sell recon axles at a good price?
#11: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:28 pm ---- IMaxles have got a decent reputation
#12: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: ej2_sir, Location: DerbyPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:40 pm ---- I wouldnt bother with an axle just because the end plate bolt has sheared? Why is everyone on this forum obssessed with buying recon axles? If you cant drill and easyout the bolt just take it to a garage/engineering shop. probably cost about £30. Or get a recon axle for £400.............
#13: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:47 pm ---- The bolt isnt the only reason i was asking about reconditioned axles, i can take the bolt out myself
#14: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 3:30 pm ---- a set of bearing is at least 4 times cheaper than re-con axle
#15: Re: Rear suspension squeaking like a b***h Author: Martind, Location: Woolsery, North DevonPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 5:52 pm ---- Hopefully it is nothing too major, but I also have a little sqeek from the rear.
Only when getting in and out of the car, and when you put the handbrake on when on a hill. Sometimes when the back of the car comes off a speedbump.
No other noises/clucks etc come from the rear at all, so I have just put it down to the shocks being a bit dry.
After a little search, I have found that it may possibly be the spare wheel rubbing which I will check tomorrow, also I will be giving the wheels a good wobble.
I hope it isn't anything serious. It would be a little odd seeing as someone spent a lot of money on the shocks (a lot of money on everything really, and not all that long ago by the looks of them) and to not check everything out whilst underneith.
