#1: 1.1 wont rev past 5k rpm Author: boombastik, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Mar 25, 2012 12:50 pm ---- Hi folks
looking for some help and advise,
my son bought a 51 plate 206 1.1 look
it needed a few jobs done which were front brakes rear brakes a couple wheel bearings and the com 2000 stalk unit
we finally got it on the road on saturday but when out on the test drive we noticed it was very slow acceleration was really poor, when we went round a roundabout the engine started a knock noise and lots of blue smoke exited the exhaust
the knock went away but the car just about stopped dead it eventually started to pick up but the acceleration was virtually non exsitent
by the time we got back to the house the temp was very high and you could hear the expansion bottle bubbling
im thinking the engine is knackered, any one got any ideas???
also i priced a 2nd hand engine but the breakers only had 1.2cc will a 1.2 fit straight in ?
thanks in advance

Insurance companies really dont like cars having the engine capacity changed & 206's are bad enough on insurance if your young / have little or no claims as it is.
TU 8 valve lumps are normally bulletproof, this one has either been neglected / abused in the past as the engine should do 150K + miles easily if looked after due to its stone age design.

so you reckon just chuck another engine in then, how hard is it to do the head gasket and would that cure it? would the head not need skimed

You need to get a mechanic to look at it to confirm whats actually wrong with it first before deciding what the best course of action is.
Its hard to diagnose mechanically problems over the internet.
Very rare a TU bottom end gives any trouble unless its neglected or abused.

Have you actually checked the oil level? If the oil is very low when you went around that roundabout you could have starved the engine of oil and what you experienced was a partial engine seizure. If that is what happened then that is a completely k*******d engine and much more than just a head gasket.
It could still just be a head gasket but I doubt it. Get you friendly mechanic to have a look at it and tell him what happened. If it is low on oil do not top it up and don't drive it until it has been looked at.
