#1: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 11:05 am ---- My gti was miss firing so I changed the coil pack and it's been fine for 2 weeks but now started to miss again
Plugs don't look dodgy they seem fine it's got ngk-r plugs in it but if I accelerate gently it slowly builds up speed without misfiring but if I rev the car it splutters?

206 + NGK spark plugs = MISFIRE
Its been covered so many times on here in the past.
Bosch plugs are what you need to fit.
#4: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:19 pm ---- Went got some new plugs super 4's fitted them and still has a slight miss
Only in the low rev range it,splutters then clears and you can put your foot down
Any other ideas guys?
#5: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:35 pm ---- Also if it helps, it runs fine on idle and doesn't miss
Went about 2miles at 50mph and didn't miss a beat was smooth as anything but if I stop and pull away it splutters and then clears at like after 2k rpm, just seems to be when it's under pressure
#6: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Martind, Location: Woolsery, North DevonPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:45 pm ---- Maybe take a look at this link mate
When was your fuel filter last done? Maybe that...
Try and have a search on here as no doubt someone else as had slimilar problems
Thanks I will take a look, car did belong to other halfs relative and she had it around 2yrs and apparently she hasn't serviced it in the time she has had it

#9: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: TheGTIlad, Location: LeedsPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 2:36 pm ---- I'd check everything fuel related tbh with you. If you have access to diag equipment, look at the fuel parameters in the engine ecu, and when the spluttering occurs, check what pressure its at, and compare it to under load, and idle. You should see a drop in pressure and then a pick up again.
This could indicate a number of things, the fuel filter could be partially blocked/clogged, the fuel rail may not be holding its pressure correctly, or more often than not, it could be the fuel pump on its way out.
NOTE- this is only a suggestion to check, not an actual diagnosis.

#11: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2012 2:36 am ---- Will look at map sensor shortly and check other sensors
Hopefully isn't anything expensive
Will get back to you all shortly
#12: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2012 4:57 am ---- Ok so far I tried changing the map sensor and it's still the same, I had a spare lying around
It idle fine and doesn't misfire at all and if you build the revs slowly it doesn't misfire it's only if you put your foot down a little and want a bit more power it spits like a misfire
#13: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:23 am ---- It could just be a weak coil pack...
#14: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2012 6:03 am ---- It's been fine for 2 weeks, do you think it could be fuel filter?
#15: Re: Gti 138 missing Author: Kelz, Location: KentPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2012 7:17 am ---- Now has new fuel filter and is still the same
