#1: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 11:04 am ---- NIGHTMARE!
when i began the task of dropping my car i was told that the T40 Torx screws was the hellish task but ? the washers behind the Torx Bolts are 10000X worse ... iv managed to rip 2 of the 4 out but the last 2 are impossible iv had a lump hammer and snapped 3 screwdrivers trying to wack them free but they dont budge :'( there currently soaking in some ZX54 Rush Eater hoping that this loosens them up
#2: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 12:21 pm ---- Put the screw back in and tap the torsion bar away from the washer. The bar can be tight against the washer preventing it from being moved. Only problem is if the bar is seized you'll struggle to move it away from the washer.
#3: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 12:49 pm ---- got the washers out now having a mare getting the top bar out :'(
#4: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:03 pm ---- Put the screws back in firmly. Hit them instead of the end of the bar. Cheaper to replace some squashed screws than dented torsion bars.
#5: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:32 pm ---- haha , didnt want to squash my torx screw so i put another one in and that squished :/ ill try pull it out tomorrow hopefully i can get a socket around it knocking this on the head for tonight round 2 tomorrow
#6: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 2:21 pm ---- Just buy some new ones. Better to put new ones in with copper grease on than reuse the old ones.
I chisel can easily remove battered TB bolts.
#7: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 2:47 pm ---- dont suppose you can tell me ?
the top torsion bar gets hammered on the driver side and comes out the passenger ?
the bottom hammered on the passenger and comes out the drivers ??
just i was wailing it for at least a hour today and it didnt budge
#8: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:02 pm ---- Quite simply they get inserted through the trailing arm...so they come out that way too.
#9: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:46 pm ---- hmm lol , i could probably write everything i know about cars on the back of a stamp
what exactly is the trailing arm ? iv taken a photo
#10: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Ruffy_206, Location: BristolPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:55 pm ---- the arm that the bars go into.
jack them up a tiny bit also take a bit of pressure off the splines. i also found that racket strapping them together stopped any movement and meant all force went into the bar moving.
the top one you hit from the drivers side iirc its the opposite to the bottom anyways
get new washer and torxs its about 8 quid and a must really.
#11: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:04 pm ---- so its like this
trailing arm is in red and the top bar will slide out --->--->--->
#12: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: johnboy1989, Location: South walesPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:28 pm ---- ive just done mine today and the top bar goes that way out and the bottom goes the other way
#13: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:31 pm ---- thanks johnny !!
been wacking mine for around a hour the wrong way -.-
#14: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: johnboy1989, Location: South walesPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:54 pm ---- then if i was you spray it with loads of WD40 mate i would lol
#15: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:50 am ---- They go in through the trailing arm - the arm the wheel is attached to.
When knocking the torsion bars out you need to make sure you aren't just pushing the arms off the tube. So the arm needs holding in place maybe with some timber between it and a wall.
#16: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:03 am ---- got about 2-3 mm movement in the top one but now its just stopped
#17: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: johnboy1989, Location: South walesPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:20 am ----

I suppose the bars can go either way if you are just lowering the back end. My method is enough to remove the torsion bar completely. I'm sure one end is fatter than the other so will only go one way.
#20: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 6:57 am ---- ill give it a hour if it wont budge then ill buy a blowtorch
#21: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:33 am ---- THE TOP ONES OUT!!
now the task is to remove the squished torx screw :'(
#22: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 12:44 pm ---- Just use an old wood working chisel. It will cut into the screw and shift it easily - well it did for me.
#23: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 12:59 pm ---- the bottom torsion bars not budging had me smashing it for a hour and my dad for a hour after that its seized in the drivers side to its just pushing the arm off ? :/ wont hit backwards or forwards cant even roll it to a garage my wheels are in Birmingham and i only got 1 torsion bar in XD got till the 15th to get this done before im back at work :'( p**sing me off why cant peugeot make anything easy....
#24: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:51 pm ---- It won't knock the arm off if you put a block of timber between the arm and a solid object.
#25: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:58 pm ---- my car has no wheels and its in the middle of the garden my maa would get moody if i built a wall

#29: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Chris180, Location: northumberlandPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2012 2:22 pm ---- ok i'm in the middle of doing this aswell and i have the bolts and washers out
can some one clearthis up...hitting the top bar from the drivers side and forcing it towards the passenger side is the correct way to be going...and then the lower bar hit from the passenger side forcing it towards the driver side???
#30: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 1:58 am ---- That's what the picture says yes. In reality you can knock them either way when just lowering the rear.
#31: Re: off set washers "torsion bar" Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Wed Apr 11, 2012 12:35 pm ---- Finally got my wheel back this is what 65mm looks like
