#1: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:57 pm ---- Hi,
This is my first post/thread. I Would really appreciate some help if possible.
I purchased a 206 2.0 Hdi (90) 2000 model - W reg
It has a few problems that need fixing and will be going to a few local scrappy's to see what i can find.
Basically i am getting a clunking noise every time i full lock to the left and right and also when i brake. I took it to Farmers autocare so they could check what the problem was. They said it needs 2 front spring coils and a top strut.
I was thinking of going to get the full strut with coil from the scrappy's if possible which will cover everything.
What i would like to know is, what 206's can i take these off that will fit my model? Would it have to be the exact model or would some of the petrol models fit just as well?
Appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks.

#3: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:05 pm ---- On a tight budget. I dont have the tools for spring replacement which is why i was thinking of the the whole strut with springs. As i said this should cover all bases?
#4: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and CatterickPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:06 pm ---- dependant on where you are in the uk i have a set from a GTi 180 that you could come collect for a small price? im in blackburn lancashire so if too far away then fair enough
#5: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:08 pm ---- Would these fit the 2.0 hdi? If so i would pay postage depedant on how much it would cost.
#6: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: richpowell91, Location: Melton Mowbray LeicestershirePosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:13 pm ---- Well it should cover all bases but if you were to get a pair from a scrap yard there's no guarantee that the shocks or bearings will not fail within a month. I understand your on a tight budget but without getting a known good set you could well be back at square one in a months time.

I would like to buy the springs at top strut mount/bearing however i am not confident in changing the spring myself as it is fairly dangerious without the correct tools.
#8: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: richpowell91, Location: Melton Mowbray LeicestershirePosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:23 pm ---- Yeh definatly dont try and replace springs with the correct tools, why dont you pop down to your local friendly garage and ask how much they would charge to just replace the springs and top mounts if you were to supply the new springs and bearings if you were to remove the struts yourself and drop them off with them. Weve done this before at work and charged anything from between £20 and for free if we know the person.
Obviously it still might make more sense to you money wise for you to replace the struts with some from a scrap yard but it might give you another option.
#9: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:27 pm ---- Thats another option which seems good. Ill have a think about that if i dont find the whole strut as i mentioned first.
Also as i asked what 206's can i take these off that will fit my model? Would it have to be the exact model or would some of the petrol models fit just as well?
Appreciate your advice.

#11: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:54 pm ---- Would these fit my car?
#12: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Wed Apr 04, 2012 12:07 am ---- You can use any other strut from any model of a standard 206.
#13: Re: Changing whole strut with coils Author: slunkeh, Location: United KingdomPosted: Wed Apr 04, 2012 3:25 am ---- so if mines is a 2000 model. up to what year of other car will fit it? Or is it standard all round?
