#1: GTI 180 Loss of power Author: Jammie_1989, Location: ManchesterPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:19 am ---- Was just out in my car and been driving like a nun for past day or so. Joined a motorway slip road put the pedal down and not much happened. It was seriously under powered. Got off the motorway and pulled over, restarted the engine and all was well again Anybody else had this issue as couldn't find anything on here or google. Is anything on its way out or was it just throwing a wobbler. Its under warranty for another 2 1/2 months so if something needs fixing will get it done.

Yeah definately but would say more like a 1.4 as it moved a little. Any idea where the vvt solenoid is? have some carb cleaner in the garage from my old motorbike

the vvti solenoid is the sensor on the right hand side of the coil pack, (looking at that pic) its actually on the left looking at the engine, its held in with a allen key and just pulls out, but be carful not to drop when its out as its very delicate and rather pricey i think

Think my carb cleaner has turned up as turns out I didnt have any so ordered some off ebay Will give this a go at weekend hopefully will also sort out why it feels underpowered low down in the rev range. I know its high revving my my mums 1.4 206 has more urgency low down in second gear

#11: Re: GTI 180 Loss of power Author: Dan-, Location: BiggleswadePosted: Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:01 am ---- hey at least your getting somewhere now and btw the 180 doesn't have a removable icv its an electronic throttle body so the ivc not cleanable/removable

#13: Re: GTI 180 Loss of power Author: Pugti6, Location: BuckinghamshirePosted: Tue May 21, 2013 1:14 pm ---- I know this is an old post. Mine had these symptoms this morning. I was going up the road then power just dropped off. I was just wondering if anyone had a guide to cleaning the VVTi solenoid?
Did the problem stay solved? Or is it worth getting a new one?
