#1: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:33 am ---- i have a very strange issue,
i have noticed recently that while accelerating in 3rd 4th and 5th gear, my car will momentarly hesitaste before acceleration or it will happen mid way through, it is happening more often now, first noticed about a week ago thought it was cause i was running low on fuel, so put in a good £45 which saw it to over 3/4 full.
so i know its not a low fuel issue, i have also noticed more and more that the fan is staying on after turning the igniton off, to cool down the engine, im assuming after a failed regen, would it be worth taking it to pug or another place that can do forced regens, as i dont really get the prolonged drive required for a full regen.
also getting an of warning beep every now and then, but nothing flashing on the dash or the MFD, could all these be related.
as you may know this is the second diesel i have owned but the first with all this regen/dpf crap.

#5: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:53 am ---- Sounds like the clutch and the fans staying on is common (as the bsi stays awake for 3 to 4 minutes after the car is completely left alone, eg after locking)
That or could be the relays dying but i doubt that
#6: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:59 am ---- just gone throught the service history i have

#8: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:13 pm ---- steve whats your car though, and yeah it has, i think the guy/girl before me must have rescued it before selling it, either that or they sold it as it was getting too expensive to maintain, i bought it for £3k so add those bills up and well it comes to over £5k spent in the last few years, on the upside most of the expensive stuff bar the DPF has been done, and i intend removing the DPF.

Its a HDI GTI so it has ESP fitted so it should have the electronic fly by wire throttle set up on it.
#11: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 7:49 am ---- some further investigation into my woes (is that the correct spelling), and i have taken a few snaps.
any ideas, i have cleaned the area, but im at work tonight so i will find out tomorrow it its something in that area or elsewhere making it wet.
as for the fluid, there is no smell to it and it look like old oil.
what is that part ???
i have also asked my friend (the mechanic) to look over it tomorrow night, also do a fault code read, to see if there are any stored.
#12: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:00 am ---- for those that are interested,
i have just picked my car up, it's not a bad as i thought.
fault codes are:
1: P1351 - preheat relay circuit
2: P0420 - particulate filter / emissions filter overloaded
3: P0422 - max number of adsorbered regens reached
4: P0299 or P0244 (cant make out his writing there) - ?????
solutions
1, seems to be an old fault, as it was indicating there was a fault in the glow plugs (will get these changed anyway to to make sure, not not reappeared since being cleared)
2 and 3, the eloys tank is empty so that would be why the fan stays on, and thats why the dpf is blocked and max number of regens reached, the is no cleaner to clean it.
4, i have no idea what that code it, so have no further info on it.
however while checking the car over, he did say the fluid in the pics is from the cooling system, on further inspection it seems the plactic box that holds the sensors needs replacing, so that might cause problem 1 to re-occur.
also he noted a slight clunk on pulling away from standstill, seems to suspect a worn engine mount.
any further advice apreciated, lee if you reading this can you elaborate on the fault codes.

That part is the fuel filter, this is how it should look:
Your fault codes, this is what i found on google:
P0299 Turbo Low Boost
P0244 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Range/Performance
Low turbo might account for the hesitation?
If i remember right i had a fault code as one of my glow plugs was down, if the glow plugs are down or not working, they cant get the engine hot enough to do a proper regen. So i was told, my DPF was blocked, readings off the scale
#14: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sun Apr 15, 2012 8:18 am ---- thanks for that info,
the filter was removed and inspected and was deemed to be ok, the fliud ontop of it has a chalky residue that seems to be linked to the thermostat (bit with all the sensors) housing, as if you look at this pic:
next to the air intake you can see the build-up of crap around the end of the water pipe from the rad (looks like someone tried to use radwield to seal it), this would also be consistant witht the fact i keep getting a "low coolent level" message on the MFD.
as for the turbo, he did check it out and there was some play in the shaft but not enought to be worried about, my olny concern now is that it is being starved of oil, due to the common carbon build up in these engines.
as for the eloys/dpf issue, i have not had any warnings that the eloys tank is empty, should i not have had some indication that it was getting low, there is a warning for everything else, so it would seem odd that peugeot forgot to add that one considering its a pretty vital part in keeping the dpf clean.
would i be able to claim this under warrenty, as it has clearly been empty for a while as i have had no indication of it being empty????
while still on that subject, im considering getting 1ltr of eloys put back in hte tank, would this be enought to allow a regen, as eventually ill be getting the dpf removed and totally remapped, however i need it to be functional in the mean time.
#15: Re: DV6 Engine hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:51 pm ---- From the fault codes I suggest that this car has been town driven and the dpf is block to a point where it is unrecoverable and a new dpf is needed. Take it to a dealer and get their advice on whether a forced regen will cure the hesitation.
I do not think it is clutch as the hesitation would be in unison with the revs rising for no increase in speed. It is quite obvious when a clutch is slipping.
Another option to a new DPF is DPF removal and engine ECU remap by Angel tuning. They will take off the exhaust pipe smash out the blocked innards, refit the pipe and rewrite the ECU so that a DPF regen is removed from the software. Some companies will replace the dpf with a straight through pipe but this is noticeable and a possible MOT failure. The Angel tuning method is almost undetectable.
However, please don't go straight to the DPF removal but start by checking with a main dealer that yours is beyond recovery and then decide what option you ant to take: new DPF or DPF removal.
