#1: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 2:19 am ---- Hi,
Got a really annoying rattle and it is driving me nuts. The car is a Peugeot 206 1.4 GLX 02 Plate.
Basically when I start up the car and drive there is a rattle from the front but it is only intermittent and goes away mostly when the car warms up. The exhaust is all sound from the CAT back and clamps are in place. The aux belt and tensioner spring have been replaced also so I know it is not that.
Can somebody help as it is really peeing me off!!!!
#2: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 2:50 am ---- Additional the noise is not there if I am accelerating!!!
#3: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Ash, Location: Running from Ant and Lee and Adam...........Posted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:23 am ---- Check the exhaust manifold shielding.
I *think* that is the one that normally causes people problems.
#4: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:30 am ---- Cheers Ash. Is it easy to get access to?

Yeah, you can see it when you open the bonnet.
It gets very hot with the engine on so don't touch it unless the engine hasn't been used.
That is usually the main culprit.

#7: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: gazza82, Location: South BucksPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 6:46 am ---- Check the crank pulley as well ...

#9: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: shadow, Location: gloucesterPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 8:35 am ---- could be broken engine cover clips
#10: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 8:35 am ---- Hi Shadow,
Is this quite common and are they easy to replace?
#11: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: shadow, Location: gloucesterPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 8:51 am ---- they are plastic slot clips (push and twist to lock/unlock) so very easy to break cost pence from a main dealer.

#19: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Sun May 06, 2012 2:47 pm ---- Hi Ash,
Going to be a bit hard trying to do that as it is only if I am driving and only intermittently at that. To be honest had enough with Peugeots now and just want shot of so I can get something else.
#20: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: deanparkr, Location: United KingdomPosted: Wed May 09, 2012 4:18 pm ---- Does it rattle over bumps or is it rattling over normal road surface too?
I had a rattle from the front that happend intermittantly, I made a recording of it: goo.gl/2PA4b
Are you getting the same kind of rattle noise as that?
#21: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Thu May 10, 2012 8:10 am ---- Hi,
Rattles over normal road surface also. I checked your sound recording and mine does not sound like that. Will have to try and record and upload and go from there.
Thanks
#22: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Mon May 14, 2012 4:59 am ---- Update: To be honest having more of a listen it is more a creaking noise (sounds maybe like bed springs) from the front drivers side and is intermittent only and seems to go away when accelerating. Disappears altogether after about 10 mins. Exhaust is not loose at all and all tightened so it is def not that. Any other ideas????
I am probably going to get a Garage to have a look because I have had enough of the noise but before that would appreciate any other theories if people have had similar problems. Car was jacked up today and everything seems to be ok i.e. not loose, moving but I am not an expert.
#23: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Mon May 14, 2012 5:11 am ---- Is it happening when the car is at idle or only when you are driving. I have a clicking noise and I'm fairly sure it's the CV joint.
#24: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Mon May 14, 2012 5:19 am ---- Just when I am driving, ok at standstill
#25: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Mon May 14, 2012 5:39 am ---- While your car is parked up, push down gently on the front wing to compress the spring and then let it back up. You might be able to pin point the noise easier from being stood next to it. Most likely a worn ball joint or suspension mount.
Is the car lowered?
#26: Re: Rattling noises driving me nuts!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Mon May 14, 2012 7:04 am ---- Will do, I am thinking worn joint possibly.
The car is not lowered at all - totally standard!!!
