Just wondered if anyone can help with this one - I'm considering buying a friend's 02 1.4 Look 206 and noticed on a test drive today that the STOP sign is constantly on. My friend says it has been for about a year and thinks it is down to a rear door sensor - the door had a knock which has been knocked out. The door locks with a key but sometimes plays up when central locking with the fob. The airbag light is also illuminated. The car passed its MOT yesterday although it did get an advisory for the airbag light. Her husband is going to look at the door sensor this weekend but I wondered if it may be something else going on instead? I am absolutely paranoid that it may be head gasket related, having just had HG failure on my very low mileage Rover 25.......!
The 206 has only done 44000 and has a full service history - the last service being Nov 2010 at 41000. The car is lovely apart from these little niggles, but I am worried that they may turn out to be not so little niggles in the future!
If anyone can help I would be sooooo grateful.....

Apparently it just squeaked in before it becomes a fail at the end of the month! So if I do buy it I will have a year to sort it out
Advisory for the airbag light... Hmmm. Pretty sure that's a fail nowadays.

Airbag warning light on should have failed the mot test.

Vosa, the government agency responsible for the MoT, has indicated that up to "late spring" – probably May, although the exact date hasn't been set yet – "failures" relating to the new tests will first be treated as "advisories". This means that if you are tested now and have a warning light that's faulty you will have until the next MOT renewal date to get it fixed.
This is going to sound really stupid and girly but is the Crash Data Stored a bad thing? Please be gentle with me - I have been driving a Rover for some years and all this onboard computer stuff is new to me!
Do you think I should be worried about the airbag and STOP light? I haven't handed any money over yet so could still walk away (although I may be one friend less if I do...)
Any advice will be very gratefully received!

Have you got any ideas about the STOP light (keeping fingers tightly crossed...)? As I said I am so scared in case it relates to a serious engine problem - I don't want to be exchanging one dying car for another!

Its been driven around for a year with the STOP warning lamp on, that just shows an owner that doesnt care for there car.
The airbag warning lamp is on, that shows an owner that doesnt care for there own or passengers safety.
What other nastys is it hiding?

I have to agree with this, its starting to sound like a bad buy and beleive me if the car hasnt been looked after you will spend the rest of its days putting it right.

I only use my car 4 days a week and do about 3 - 4000 a year so don't want to spend several thousand on another car. We also have a 2yr old Touran which is our family car. This car seemed to be a Godsend - my friend advertised it for sale the same day my HG failed and it looked like the answer to my problem. It passed the MOT on Wednesday and has a full service history. It was only when I test drove it that she pointed out the warning lights - but her husband thinks they are nothing to worry about. He is looking at the rear door sensor this week and thinks that will fix the STOP light. Just hoping it is something that simple but I thought I would check with the experts!

I haven't set my heart on anything, I'm just a normal Mum with not much spare cash - like most of us - trying to resolve a situation to allow me to get my son to school and me to work next week.
I'm sorry if I have annoyed you in any way, I just thought this was the best place to ask for advice from experienced owners who may say "Oh yeah, that's a common fault".

Our of curiosity, you said 'spending thousands' on another car, how much is she offering this car to you? What year? What engine?
