#1: 2.0 hdi oil leak Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:29 am ---- Howdo,
I was putting my new dampers on my engine last night and i noticed a lot of oil around the oil cap and in the head below.
I suspect its the gasket thats gone.
I've checked my oil and its still on the max mark, but I was wondering, to change the gasket, do I need to drain the oil at all of can I just unscrew all the bolts and change it?
I've added a pic to show you where the leak is coming from.
P.s. - would this affect power or anything? I havent noticed anything, but then again I dont know how long its had a leak.

#4: Re: 2.0 hdi oil leak Author: frankaai, Location: BelfastPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:51 am ---- nah mate dont need to drain any oil at all, if i was you i would put a tiny smear of sealer on the new gasket just to make it extra tight! i know other people would disagree but thats what i would do

or even just put a bit of sealer on your old gasket, preferably black, would save you a couple of pound on a new one
#6: Re: 2.0 hdi oil leak Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:55 am ---- Quick question, is it just the 6 torx bolts and lift it off or do I have to remove the pipes attached to it aswell?

Might aswell just get a new one £14.97 from Eurocarparts, should be cheaper at gsf as I get 20% discount.

yes pull back the pipes as well, you need to take all screws out, just lift it with a flat head screw driver, go easy though, clean the whole thing, inside and out, you could even spray it while its off if you wanted lol dont tighten the screws to much though incase they snap

It's not the head gasket it's only the rocker cover gasket, you only get your head skimmed if the engine has over heated and it's warped, the head is only aluminium and it can bend when over heated that's the only time it needs skimmed

its not actually that hard or wasnt on the saxo i did did it all on my drive pretty much and as said took the head to get skimmed and replaced the gasket wasnt much really
may attempt to find a decent car with a head gasket failure and do it again make some money from it or just run it once fixed can get some bargains cause garages charge a fortune to do it for some reason
#20: Re: 2.0 hdi oil leak Author: frankaai, Location: BelfastPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2012 1:23 pm ---- Honestly mate it will take you 5 mins to do the job you don't need to touch the fuel rail, take the whole thing off and do it right because you want the gasket to be aligned properly, just going by experience don't mean to sound the know all
#21: Re: 2.0 hdi oil leak Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:46 am ---- I did this on Saturday and its now fixed
Was a pain in the a**e though!
there's 8 torxs bolts, then you need to take out a sensor next to the cam belt, and also take off the cambelt cover as the rocker cover goes underneath the cam belt cover. I also had to unbolt the black metal thing that holds the engine cover in place to have enough room to lift the rocker cover. The pipes were really stiff aswell and had to come off. there's like two locator pins on the rocker cover that slots down into the rocker so you cant just slide it off, it has to come up and out.
