#1: HEATER BLOWER Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Fri Apr 20, 2012 1:56 pm ---- Hi all, Heater blower motor conked out the other day, previos to that, had all the classic signs of the resister going, low squeeling noise-intermitent work wouldn't work-adjusting the climate control fan would get rid of the squeeling. So checked the air con fuse, 40amp (engine fuse box) whilst taking it out one side of the fuse, was left inside the fuse box and had welded itself, obviously not good. Prceeded to whip out the heater motor (resister built into motor) noticed the pos terminal on the motor was black, cleaned it up and ran a charge through it and the motor is working. Been told by peogeot can't buy resister seperate, comes at a rip off price of £230 full unit, even though the the resister splits from the motor. Scrappers i think, or does anyone know where you can get them from. Can anyone also explain why the fuse should weld itself, dont want to whip another in and fry the bsi, or am i just being too cautious, any advice would be mugh appreciated.
#2: Re: HEATER BLOWER Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Fri Apr 20, 2012 2:30 pm ---- Well you sure have a problem with your heater blower motor,which cause a load on the wires and the fuse,and I would say that the fuse you had is not the correct value,because in this case it should get burned,and don't allow the power to go through,but in yours didn't blow off,and keept the power running till it melt down the fuse,and welded itself,the terminal was black from the overload,get the whole motor from scrappy,replace it all,and replace the fuse,and fix the wire as well.

Your right should have blown the fuse. that what concerns me.Think i will get motor from scrappers and get an auto elec to check wiring for me before i install motor, Thanks

IT used to make the classic squeeling noises but worked ok. Just been looking on ebay though and you can pick a new heater blower resister up for £23? Maybe worth a pop? Keep us updated dude as I will most likely get round to this after a few other niggling problems.

A fuse might weld without actually breaking the circuit if it is running hot ie very near the melt point of the fuse. A squealing fan is a sign that there is resistance there so an extra load on the motor so it draws more current to maintain speed selected
