I think the manifold on my gti is blowing but not 100% sure... Was low on oil and started to sound tappity so done a oil nd filter change and seemed better but since then when I'm driving and put my foot down a little to,accelerate that's when you hear the noise, think its the manifold blowing but not,sure... Is this a common problem or not likely?

The exhaust manifold on some gti's rattle, they need to be welded. there's 4 pipes that loosen and cause the rattle. Very poor and s**te design. Ive just welded mine as it rattled like fook over 2000 rpm.

Exhaust manifold rattle is a common problem on the EW10J4 lump, mate of mine has a 307 with the same engine fitted & had to weld his manifold to because of the annoying rattle issuse Laughing

Fitting a stainless manifold will stop it yes, but as said in another thread i believe you started they are a pain to fit and the cat needs to be cut. Im welding mine as i have the engine out Smile

If you plan on keeping the car then get it done, i beleive you can remove the manifold by undoing the lower engine mount and pulling the engine foward. Then weld the 4 pipes here:

the pipes inside?

would this cause the car to lose any power if they are lose and blowing?

The 4 pipes are what rattle, i put a small tack weld on each. This wouldnt cause a loss of power and if its blowing you need to check the seal from the manifold to the cat.
