#1: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Adam, Location: UKPosted: Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:04 pm ---- When (miles) and how often is it recommended to replace the brake fluid in a Peugeot 206 (54 plate)?
Is it easy to do by yourself or should it be done by a mechanic?
How long does it take to bleed and replace the brake fluid and how much would it cost me (if done by a mechanic)?
Which brake fluid is recommended?
Cheers

any from the likes of unipart euro part own brand will do
it can be done by yourself and a friend would take about 1hr
just do some searches on bleeding brakes and you will have enough knowledge to do it
if done by yourself should be able to get it done with £10
#3: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:04 am ---- Use a ezebleed kit
#4: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:09 am ---- and a proper bleed screw spanner. Normal spaners ruin the screws.
#5: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Adam, Location: UKPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:15 pm ---- Should I use dot 4 brake fluid?
If I get it done by a garage, will it cost me around £30?
Thanks
#6: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:24 pm ---- Its every 2 years or 20k
£49.99 at our main dealers
You can do it yourself, if you have a or two mates handy, one pumps, one drains the fluid, one refills/checks the level
It takes me on a ramp about 10 minutes, on the floor/jack 20 and thats without a pressure bleeder
#7: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Adam, Location: UKPosted: Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:01 pm ---- Should I buy dot 4, dot 5 or dot 5.1 brake fluid?
#8: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:03 pm ---- 4 for a normal car
But 5.1 never hurt anyone, just make sure you dont mix the fluid and completely drain the original
most top brand racing brake fluid are dot 4 or dot 4+; you rarely find good 5.1 Last edited by Seabook on Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:19 pm; edited 1 time in total

#11: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Adam, Location: UKPosted: Tue Apr 24, 2012 12:43 pm ---- How much brake fluid would I need?
#13: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:28 pm ---- You know the saying
"If in doubt......don't be a complete retard and attempt something as critical to the safety of you and everyone else on the road in order to save £30"...... well, it goes something like that...
#14: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:37 pm ---- 500ml is all we get for a complete change
I personally agree with 1L though
#15: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: Adam, Location: UKPosted: Thu Apr 26, 2012 5:39 pm ---- I got my car's brake fluid replace today by a local garage, he only charged me £10 - I just had to get the brake fluid for him.
He only used 800ml of dot 4 brake fluid. How can I check to make sure he did flush the old brake fluid out?

no one will flush the old fluid out (at least i won't)
the brake system only hold less than 500ml of brake fluid; the rest is waste when you bleed the brakes.

It pumped in new fluid and The old fluid went into a Seperate container and the mechanic in the video said when the fluid is clear then check the level of fluid in the reservoir.
So maybe some garages do pump all the rubbish out?

#20: Re: Replacing Brake Fluid Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri Apr 27, 2012 5:55 am ---- Gunson Eezibleed FTW
Makes the job so much quicker & easier to do
Also works on forklifts
You should really get rid of all the old fluid in the system, you can tell by the fluid colour when fresh fluid is coming out the bleed nipple.
