I wouldnt mind a personalised plate, but it would cost money to change the insurance and finance Sad So even for a cheap one from DVLA im looking at £400 Sad

I'd love a personalised plate, like H4 YES but it's already on a Toyota Hilux Sad or S26 HDJ but the plate is £255 then getting plates made, insurance changeover etc etc pain in the neck if you ask me

You would need a new certificate of insurance from your insurance company as the car's registration number is printed on that.

Some might charge an admin fee for changing the details & sending out new documents.

Most insurers don't charge to change the reg number over, or at least not the ones I have always dealt with. Plates are £10 a pair off eBay, the guy makes 1000s and they are road legal, he'll modify them too if you send him what you want....

Unless you send him the documentation required ie proof of address, proof of entitlement to that plate, they won't be road legal. Any numberplate manufacturer has to complete the relevant documentation, which is audited. Would you send your driving licence and V5 to a complete stranger on ebay?

If the plate is modified in any way, it won't be road legal.

I was in a shop the other day and a driver came in asking for a plate to replace the one he had just lost for his HGV trailer. They refused to make one as he couldn't prove that he was entitled to display the plate on that vehicle, despite it being parked right outside the shop. He ended up buying the adhesive letters and backing plate and making the plate himself so he didn't get pulled for having no plate until he could get back to his depot and get a legal one.

The rules on plate manufacture are an ass at times, but they are there for a reason.

Im not saying your wrong, but what about those websites like Demonplates ect that will do plates with the BSAU number and their postcode on it?
Ive ordered a couple of sets from them and they havent asked for anything, just that the plates are delivered to the accounts billing address.

Demonplates answer this themselves. I'd prefer to send documentation to a reputable company rather than some bloke off ebay.

I'd rather not send any documentation to anyone.
