#1: Ricks gti project. Engine now fitted. Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid wales PostPosted: Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:13 am

Started a new topic as i wasnt to happy with the other.
In may 2011 i got a 2000 moonstone blue gti 138 with a personal plate. I px'd my Astra 2.2 sri for it. It had horrid skirts and rear splitter when i got it. It had 12 months mot and 6 months tax onit, my 1st 206.

I then decided to start breaking gti's and got a china blue gti for £350

This has now been broken for parts.
Then i found a mint firedance gti in feb 2012 that needed a new engine. I was originally going to brake it but as its a rare colour and my gti needs abit spending onit for the mot, i thought i would keep it and fit the engine out of my moonstone gti then brake that instead.

I have got the firdance gti ready for the engine and new wishbone o/s.

So i plan to fit the engine from my moonstone gti, have removed the aircon as im not prepared to pay £70 to get it re-gassed. I am swopping the ecu, bsi and transponder as i have two fobs for the moonstone and only one for the firedance. Fitting the nimrods as i like them better than the after market ones onit.
Also colour coding some of the interior plastics and am looking to carbon wrap some parts aswell (watch this space)

Thats not to bad. Had my old impreza done 2 years ago for £30. I went to team valley tractors (cheapest by me) but still a rip off. Im goin to stick without it. Never hot enough in this country anyway.

Got my khd firedance paint on saturday from halfords so will be spraying the interior parts later today. Also got some carbon fibre wrap on order to wrap the front badge, wiper cover and try a piece on the bonnet to see what it looks like. Will add some pics of the interior parts when i get chance.

Would have been a bigger and more expensive job keeping the moonstone gti. Both sills need replacing and drivers door needs rubbing down and spraying.
Its a pretty easy job swopping the same engine as it goes straight in Smile

Started the engine swop today, but forgot to take pics :@. Will take some tomorrow. Well the engine is out and the cambelt and water pump have been done. Fitted my welded exhaust manifold (hopefully no more rattles) Got a new wishbone fitted too. Tomorrow will be fitting the engine and hopefully it will run. Few things I think might be a sod are connecting the cat to the manifold and the gear linkages. Got a mate to help me as its abit harder fitting an engine to removing one.

Got the engine fitted and all connected up. Fired her up and ran fine :-). Just got the ball joints to connect and exhaust to put on. Got a few pics to upload when I get on the comp.
And I done all this on my own on the drive. Dont fancy doing it again tho. Easy taking them out but fitting them is alot harder.

Bit of an update on the progress, my pics were lost Sad so havent got any of the engine swop. Car is on the road now but have a few issues, there's a knock coming from the n/s wheel when i go over bumps and when i go to take off it knocks. Not sure what this could be, as all mounts where tight.
Need to fit a new track rod end o/s as the boot is split and i suspect the knock from the wheel is the droplink arm so will replace them. Do the plastic type that are fitted to the 306's fit the 206?

Bit of an update, have been using the gti for a week now and found a few issues the track rod ends need replacing as im feeling some judder through the wheel and i need to replace a ball joint seal boot on the new wishbone i got (slipped with the hub and split it) numpty!
Also i have to fit a spare wheel as the cage is rattling, have one with the tool kit.
Going to go over all engine mounts and the manifold clamp and tighten them up.
Have a small leak where the cat joins the manifold, one of the sh**est designs i have ever seen. As there's no gasket there im hoping by tightening it up some more it will stop leaking. Wish id have got a raceland manifold now.
