Its probably to allow any water that gets inside to drain out. Although I have fed wires through mine.

box will just look better than the orginal one when its sprayed up!! having engine cover done at the same time Smile
if its for water i will drill a drainage hole in the bottom!

Why would water get inside the battery box? The pipe is there to cool the battery.

Is it a good idea to put the battery inside a metal box?

Not if the car rolls-over, (touch wood).

Might be good to put some insulating material to the inside of the top-lid.

unless the road is total flat otherwise you will need some insulator or strap to stop the battery from moving...

All over that issue!! its got plastic all round to ensure no sparks occour and the top has been drilled and tapped to hold the battery in place!

It's a cooling pipe .... batteries do get warm and in a metal box, it's liable to get a lot warmer ...

Seems a bit of a chocolate teapot idea. Doesn't do anything the original can't and can't see it looking better either.

If youve got the materials and tools to make something like this then its a tidy mod! A nice personal touch for the engine bay IMO.

I agree, the welds look a bit too rough and lumpy. But hey, what do I know.

Also, I would never be going near your engine bay. f*** that for the giggles.

It's your engine bay, do what you want. If you don't like critics, harsh or soft, don't post anything.

i can understand where my brother is coming from, i think "Looks s**t if you ask me. Welding looks p**s poor too." is a bit too harsh when all that needed to be said was something a little less harsher. I know he has worked hard on it but those welds you aint going to see anyway as thats the base and not the top

I think he was asking what the plastic air feed pipe was going into the battery box rather than what people thought of his battery box

think he's actually asking what people think of the battery box in that thread and finding out what the red cable/wire that feeds into the battery cover is in this thread.

no need to argue about it, I think the box could look well with other aluminium bits. Aluminium is very hard to weld but can be tidied up well to give a nice finish.

well done!!!
