In exactly the same way as colour coding rub strips.

Use plastic primer and away you go...

I sprayed mine the other week Smile really simple to do, and got a great finish

Is it just a case of prying it off with a flathead to remove it?

Almost Haynes! There's 2 torx t20's under the clock surround.

Clock
Surround is removed by pushing it towards the windscreen. Then there is those two bolts I mentioned earlier.
Undo those and give it a tug towards you
