#3: Re: rear axle bearing Author: Adz2598, Location: Oldbury west midlandsPosted: Thu May 17, 2012 11:11 am ---- worth just getting a whole new axle ?
#4: Re: rear axle bearing Author: rttam, Location: devonPosted: Thu May 17, 2012 11:26 am ---- if your confident with your mechanical skills and have patience it isnt too bad a job but if your in any doubt id get a 2nd hand axle.
just find a lot of good axles are being thrown away because people cant be a**e to change the bearings it doesnt always ruin the stub. i rebuilt mine over the winter was only on 65k but i thought id do it as a matter of course while i was adjusting the rear height so i know the axle will stay good

#7: Re: rear axle bearing Author: HDI90, Location: sunny stokePosted: Thu May 17, 2012 12:01 pm ---- Quite easy if everythink go,s to plan and the bearing hasnt worn the shaft egg shaped!
#8: Re: rear axle bearing Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu May 17, 2012 12:21 pm ---- better to re-con it than getting a scrap yard axle
#9: Re: rear axle bearing Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Thu May 17, 2012 12:51 pm ---- would be interested in this also as i have no clue really where bearings etc are
will be doing it soon
#10: Re: rear axle bearing Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Thu May 17, 2012 1:12 pm ---- My bearings are fine, there's no play in the arm yet it has dented the bearing surface on the stub axle...so if you think its a case of just sticking new bearings on a worn axle then be prepared for a surprise. In other words if you have an evidently worn axle with play in the bearings it will be worse than mine.
would be interested in this also as i have no clue really where bearings etc are
will be doing it soon
there is a guide on here so as on youtube...
#12: Re: rear axle bearing Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Thu May 17, 2012 3:19 pm ---- just done a search on youtube seams to be a few guides so might use them as a guide, is it worthwhile changing all bearings etc
i will be changing the mount bushes as they are shot, any special tool needed, also is it easier to remove the tbs while the axel is off the car

#14: Re: rear axle bearing Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Fri May 18, 2012 11:40 am ---- his it possible to change the bushes with normal tools or do you need a press to get them in
#15: Re: rear axle bearing Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Fri May 18, 2012 12:45 pm ---- Why not buy a 2nd axle and re-build it then swap it over? Then you could rebuild your old one and sell it or scrap it??
his it possible to change the bushes with normal tools or do you need a press to get them in
peugeot dealer got special tools to pull out and press in the bush.
however; it is possible to cut the bush and chisel it out; and then hammer in the new bush.
but i am surprise if that bush will have any wear at all.
#17: Re: rear axle bearing Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sat May 19, 2012 10:16 am ---- mine is banging and knocking abit so thought while im on with changing the tbs may aswell take the axel off and underseal the car also
