#1: Sticky / Notchy Clutch Pedal Author: skov, Location: CambsPosted: Mon May 28, 2012 2:16 am ---- Hi All,
Just bought a 2004 206 gti last week (137 bhp version).
Had to drive it in start-stop traffic for the first time today, and noticed the clutch pedal is very sticky/notchy.
It's particularly bad around the biting point, which makes it difficult to drive smoothly!
Any ideas?
Thanks!

#4: Re: Sticky / Notchy Clutch Pedal Author: skov, Location: CambsPosted: Mon May 28, 2012 4:24 am ---- Just had a look - it's hydraulic.
When I push the pedal in and out there's a definite creaking noise too.
Can't tell if it's coming from the pedal or the gearbox end though.

(£10 for the cylined off a breaker)

Yep RHD ones. LHD GTI's are cable.

#8: Re: Sticky / Notchy Clutch Pedal Author: skov, Location: CambsPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 6:24 am ---- Is there any way of checking whether it's a dodgy piston/cylinder without taking it apart?
And is it more likely to be the master or slave cylinder?
#9: Re: Sticky / Notchy Clutch Pedal Author: Walton450, Location: LeicesterPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 9:15 am ---- More likely the master attached to the pedal. That would be the cheapest place to start. I think you have to remove the box to change the slave. If you have a Haynes manual it tells you how to remove and re fit. It says it's do able for a DIY machine.

How hard is it to get the box off?
On my last car you had to drop the whole front subframe...
I suppose I'd better buy the Haynes manual!
#15: Re: Sticky / Notchy Clutch Pedal Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 4:26 pm ---- Not a difficult job, can be done without touching the subframe with enough patience.
