Fitting a Towbar - Help
-> 206 Problems

#1: Fitting a Towbar - Help Author: alborough1974, Location: Isle of Wight PostPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2012 10:43 am

I'm about to fit a towbar on to my 2002 206 SW however i am receiving conflicting information and could do with some advice.

The supplier of the towbar say that it does not require a universal bypass relay however other suppliers are saying that they do.

So my question's are

Does this vehicle need a universal bypass relay on the electrics?

Why would some need this and others not?

What i don't want to do is risk damaging the bsi etc by not fitting one.
Any info would be appreciated

Yea mines 2002 Multi-plex and i believe that maybe the difference and why im finding conflicting information.

I just dont want to risk damaging the bsi i've always wired straight to the backlights on cars that i've fitted towbars to but you've gotta go carefull with these modern electrical systems

I fitted a tow bar on a 2006 1.4. Wired straight into the loom in the boot by soldering and heat shrink. Not had a problem with it, and it passed the MOT without quibble.

I think there is an aftermarket loom that you can buy that plugs straight into the 206s but when I looked at theses, they were massively overpriced. I think they are more for the people with basic knowledge.

IIRC from fitting towbars years ago, you only needed to fit a relay if you were wiring in the twin electrics (12N and 12S)
