People also forget that under the enormous dynamic loads the clearance between valves and pistons actually reduces with revs as the crank flexes and the conrod literally stretches.
It can also be a case of the hydraulic lifters not coping with enormous revs when you hit the wrong gear or even the belt jumping a tooth.
Tuned cams with or without skimmed heads need VERY careful cam timing and checking of clearances or the result are what you see in the picture.
