#1: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:16 am ---- Anyone got any ideas im all out now.... My peugeot 206 1.4 8v has failed its mot on emissions, i then went ahead with a full service...failed again.....new o2 sensor...failed again...new map sensor...failed again...new cat failed again. Its only failing on CO the first time it read 0.65 and after all the new parts its down to 0.5 and needs to be no more than 0.3 for a pass. Oh its also been hooked up-to a reader and it was showing no fault codes???? Anyone.....anything???
#2: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Sprotty, Location: newarkPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:28 am ---- Give it a good thrash before testing! Get the cat nice and hot as this is when they work best.
#3: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:55 am ---- Fill up with Shell V Power, give it a good run and then check the emissions. Might need a couple of tanks to give the engine a good clean but worth the cost to get the emissions down.
#4: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:11 pm ---- Read the live data, just throwing replacement parts at a car in an attempt to fix it isnt the way to do things
#5: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:46 pm ---- Slip the MOT'er £20 to not test the emissions.

No No No, test the emissions. Just stick the pipe up a shiney new Beemer
#8: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:06 pm ---- Its just as easy to fix the fault with the car
#9: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:20 pm ---- ive been checking as its just high CO readings to me indicates its been starved of air or overfueled , i forgot to mention it passes on natural idle, however i have just took the air box off to check if it is blocked in any way and found that the pipe/box from the front arch to the airbox is filled with water which in theory could allow it to pass on idle but fail on "fast idle" as it only allows enough air for burning efficient on tick over, anyway im charging my drill now and going to bang a couple of drain holes into it and see how it goes on emissions number 6
#10: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Robert594, Location: InveruriePosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:26 pm ---- I had a 206 that failed on emissions several times, replaced cat, replaced sensor etc... Turned out it was the wiring loom from the engine going to one of the sensors.. But i didnt have the money to get the loom sorted..So i ended up getting rid of the car
No No No, test the emissions. Just stick the pipe up a shiney new Beemer
That's what they normally do, as they still have to run a test, but just put a new car on the ramps.
Emissions test is a load of bollox anyway.
#12: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:19 pm ---- just took it for a test drive after removing the water from the airbox feed pipe (comes from nsf arch to under airbox) car goes like mad now..... most power its had since ive owned it, defo more efficient fuel burning now lets see on the emissions test
#13: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:33 pm ---- it is very common to have water in the airbox down pipe....
even more common to suck water up and mess up the MAP sensor too....esp. under heavy rain

Good on you.
That box is the resonator by the way which is well known to get damaged allowing water to get-in.
It might be worth examining it and replacing as it's bound to have a problem by the sound of it.
#15: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2012 3:12 am ---- Try sOme petrol additive such as red x then take it for a spirited drive.
#16: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:54 pm ---- FAILED EMISSIONS TEST NUMBER 6, the CO reading has dropped to .46 which is still a fail how ever im only looking for .16 now
upon further investigation and talks with the garage the cat that was replaced was used (2months old) but a couple of things worry me about it.
1. the donor car had blown its head gasket which can cause problems with the cat
2. the spanner who fitted it had used exhaust paste BEFORE the cat (on the link pipe) which is also known to cause problems with the catalytic material
i now have a brand new cat which i plan on fitting over the weekend
#17: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:20 pm ---- Where is the Cat from. What Brand?
#18: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:47 pm ---- local car spares, dont know brand but was promised good quality
#19: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:12 am ---- Went in for emissions test number 8 today with a brand new cat fitted, passed with flying colours with a reading of 0.07 CO and 52ppm HC and 1.016 lambda!
#20: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Dillon, Location: KentPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:06 am ---- At last! so how much did the garage charge you in the end? did it include all the guess work?
#21: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:57 am ---- I reckon my total cost including mot this time round has come to about £250 but non of the work was done at the mot station
#22: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: Dillon, Location: KentPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:06 pm ---- Sounds a bit steep for a cat and an MOT. But if it works now it's all good

A decent Cat would have been about £400 upwards. At least its passsed!
#24: Re: Failed emissions 5 times!!!!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:45 pm ---- I tried various parts first so all in all was my own fault as to why its cost me so much, the actual cat only cost £57 lol but nay mind its passed probably wont next year but thats 12 months away yet lol
