#1: GEARBOX EXPERTS!! Drivers side 'shaft not seating in diff... Author: SinfulDesignCom, Location: Ashford, KentPosted: Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:00 am ---- In a moment of peril with my 180...
Putting everything back together and now have found that the drivers side driveshaft will not go back into the diff. I unknowingly unbolted the speedo housing from the gearbox, only then to realise that I did not need to. I put this back on, then offered the driveshaft up and it goes back with about 10-12mm not going back in??
If I fit without the speedo housing, which I understand shims the diff bearing, it will go all the way in with a little jiggering, but when I put the speedo housing on first, I get the same issue of it not going all the way home.
It obviously sounds like the shim is putting the diff out of line, but how can it if I only unbolted it and put it back on?! I can slide the speedo housing over the shaft, fit the shaft in the geabox and then slide the speedo housing back in place and bolt it in that way, but it just seems like a bodge and I am worried that a planet gear or something has moved??
