So I've just changed a snapped handbrake cable on my 1.6 XSI and adjusted the handbrake so its not too high and stops the car from rolling.
Problem is, on a steep incline the handbrake doesn't fully hold and starts slowly sliding back. I have discs and pads on the rear and they have a fair amount of life left in them. I was thinking of just tightening the handbrake adjuster nut a bit more I but im not sure if that alone would resolve it. Anyone know how to sort it?

Does anyone recon that it might help if I took apart the rear brake calipers and cleaned them out?

Best to tighten the cables with rear wheels off the ground so you can check how much the pads are grazing the disc (plus this will get worse when the discs get hot and expand slightly). While you have the back end off the ground try putting the handbrake on slightly and try to rotate each wheel - you might find one rear calliper is working better than the other.
I have an XSI and on a really steep slope the handbrake struggles to hold. A clean and re-grease of the callipers would probably help, but it Passes the MOT fine.
