Car Thinks Keys Still In Ignition

#1: Car Thinks Keys Still In Ignition Author: flurry, Location: Australia PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:59 pm

Hi Guys

I have a weird fault that just started today and I hope someone here has the answer to this one. Its to do with not being able to lock the car with the key fob.

Usually when I open the drivers door and leave the keys in the ignition a little chime goes off several times and stops when I take the keys out, however today I take the keys out of the ignition, get out of the car, shut the door and try to lock it using the keyfob and nothing happens. So then I open the door again and the chiming starts up again.

When I put the keys back in and out of the barrel a few times and started up the car and stopped it again (basically repeating the same thing I had already done) the weird problem kept reappearing. In the end I had to lock the car with the door lock and key.

I was thinking about maybe putting some wd40 down the barrel or maybe some graphite, any one got any ideas what would be nest?

Thanks

Very Happy

Mine does it from time to time. I just played around with the key in the barrel and pressed the buttons.
