#1: Reversing Clutch problem? Author: very_452001, Location: BirminghamPosted: Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:26 am ---- I recently got the clutch cable replaced in halfords autocentre few weeks ago cause it snapped while driving.
I notice now that when i put the gear in reverse and get the clutch to biting point i feel couple of knocking cracking/clicking vibrations on the clutch pedal and underneath the car.
This doesnt happen in normal forward gears.
What does this mean?

They just replaced the clutch cable, not the whole clutch. Do garages renew gear box oil when it comes to replacing the clutch cable?

Anyway what's causin the problem so I get a idea before going to another garage.

I'd have a look first to make sure the cable is running where it should be and not catching on a selector rod, after that I'd start looking at the selector rods to see if they have been damaged in any way from the vehicle being placed on a ramp.

selector rods can be damaged when the car is on a ramp?

Used to regularly f*** these up on Metros when using the lazy ramps similar to the scissor lifts. The weight was supposed to be taken on the sills and chassis but if the linkage rods were too low, they would take the strain. Great for quickly taking the wheels off or dropping the oil but anything else they were pretty useless.
Never seen what they have in the service centres and to be honest I try and steer clear of Halfords full stop. Prefer to use places where the staff weren't rejected by McDonalds.

Why are these selector rods exposed? Aren't they suppose to be concealed or protected?
Even speed bumps can damage them?

the selector and linkage rods are the same meaning?
gear selector is inside the gearbox and you can't see it from outside.

How does lifting the car up damage it when the wheels are on the ramp?
