#1: MOT Failure damn it!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Sat Jun 30, 2012 11:49 am ---- Hi,
As per the topic car failed its MOT on the following:
Nearside front anti - roll bar ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt. (The Offside is the same)
Offside front brake hose twisted (god knows how that happened)
Advisories were:
Nearside front (rear bush) suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement. (Offside the same)
Now I have asked for a cost which they will be giving to me on Monday but in your opinion how much roughly should this cost to put right. I am going to have the advisories does as well as they seem to be part of the part that failed so may as well.
Thanks

I think by anti-rollbar ball joints they must mean "drop link" ball joints and these connect the anti-rollbar to the suspension - not sure about price each but I suspect about £45 for genuine and quite simple to do especially if done with the work above.
Twisted front I would want to see before commenting as it will depend how it is twisted and if there is any probability of damage. I guess a hose would be about £10 and, no doubt the obligatory hour to fit and bleed the brakes.
In summary there is probably a 4hr labour charge and, with VAT etc. somewhere between £250 and £300 parts.
However, if they use good quality pattern parts (nothing wrong with that so long asthey aren't cheap ebay Chinese ones) the parts price could be nearer or less than £100. If you get much less than 4hr labour charge then you have done quite well. Last edited by kandlbarrett on Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:54 pm; edited 1 time in total

#4: Re: MOT Failure damn it!!! Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:57 pm ---- Main dealer or independent garage?
#5: Re: MOT Failure damn it!!! Author: x_lyns_x, Location: barnsleyPosted: Sat Jun 30, 2012 3:56 pm ---- exactly the problems mine had, be carefull of rob shops the drop links cost me 18 each for genuine, but they was an absolute pain to get off ended up grinding them off, some garages may use this as a excuse to charge higher labor ask to see old parts if they have grinded them off its only took them 15 - 20 mins a side, as for the bushs deteriorating you can change the bush's on there own but chances are the ball joints wont be long till there on there way... so best with full arms i payed 60 for a pair of high quality i think peugeot quoated 90 each.... should take around an hour a side but the first one took me 3 hours but i dont have a full garages tool choice there only minor things but costly with the wrong garage!

Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:32 pm ---- droplinks i got for 8quid a side for motoquip ones from the dealer, as said half hr a side really, hoses about 10-15 a side and bleeding 1hrs job, you can do the drop links diy there not difficult in the slightest, if they after a new arm/wishbone there 52 a side for motoquip ones, these are gti prices, the wishbone isnt as easy to fix but can be done diy
#7: Re: MOT Failure damn it!!! Author: Razor34, Location: CroydonPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 4:16 am ---- It is an independent garage but very highly recommended. My partner and father in law have used them quite a lot and there labour charge is low. I would probably have a go myself but do not have the time to do it at the moment with work and need the car on the road. Will let you know how much the cost is on Monday!!
