#1: Had a bump :( Author: Pugsy, Location: Stoke On Trent, StaffordshirePosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 3:22 pm ---- So as the title says i've had a bump, wasn't my fault as my car was parked perfectly between the lines (maybe over to right a little), on the car park at work.
5.10pm last night my supervisor read my registration plate out so ended up goin outside thinking i'd left it unlocked or something daft, but came back to find my rear bumper hanging off (passenger side), and the quarter panel with three obvious & fairly nasty creases in.
The lady who came into work to tell wrote the guys details down who'd done it but as i got outside he reappeared from nowhere. said he was waiting for me to come back but going of the look of the guy he seemed a bit dodgy.
Anyway he said he'd pay for the damage, but to not take it through insurance which to me got me thinking has he actually got any insurance?
asked him for his number but he didnt want give it to me, took his registration plate down & house number/street.
My dads phoned this guy today as he said he was out last night and told him we're going to get estimates for how much the damage will cost to repair but he fobbed us off with ''if i dont like the price then i'll get some quotes on it myself''' which's a big no no.
my only problem is i think he might go a bit funny about and either refuse to pay or try & fob us off without going through insurance
As it happened at work i didnt really have a lot of time to sort everything out & he couldnt wait to get off the car park.
Sorry for the essay but any help/suggestions/opinions will be appreciated

#5: Re: Had a bump :( Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 3:36 pm ---- Like said tell insurance straight away, that way if he does mess you about the question won't arise of why you never told them about it.
Sounds like a p***k to be honest, who the hell drives into someone and then makes comments about the price that doesn't even exist yet, if it was me I would be extremely sorry and just be waiting for the bill hoping it's not too much.
And he can't get quotes himself you obviously need the car inspected to work out labour costs.

Or
Just go thru your insurance and have them deal with it but pay more next year.

your car will be a write off though from the sounds of it, my cousion had his wrote off for a cracked bumper and grill

It also helps as some insurance companies insist you at least notify the police of an incident before a claim can go through; not to mention if he had no insurance he would of come off a whole lot worse.
Id personally go through the insurance as it sounds like a lot of work and quotes outside of the insurance may run well passed £700 and he will try to get out of it.
#9: Re: Had a bump :( Author: Pugsy, Location: Stoke On Trent, StaffordshirePosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 3:41 pm ---- we've already called the cops and got an incident number if it does turn nasty, been really busy today and didnt get home til 9 last night due to work so aviva are still unaware thing is as it stands my car wasnt a write off which means it devalues it if i do have go that route but nevermind. As for the quotes i'm at work til 2 then going to get them and one from peugeot. duno if this is the right decision though.

#11: Re: Had a bump :( Author: abs06, Location: East SussexPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 4:03 pm ---- hey. i recently has simular, a girl reversed into me, dealt privately but the girls father seemed like he was trying to avoid paying and go though insurance (if this happened it would of been 50/50) i got this advise from my brother who is a barrister...
1. photos of both cars and scene
2. witnesses statements and contact details (name address number)
3. call police (if not at scene then ASAP) [which you have done] and insurance. within a week but sooner the better
4. any phone calls recorded (i used my iphone on loudspeaker and another iphone to record. you dont have to tell the other person about this) try to get in details of the day, accident vehicles.
for example say - 'Hi mr X, i calling about the accident on [DATE] where you hit my 206.' let them respond before contuing with the call
plan a script before u call. dont leave any voice mails ot texts.
5. make sure all estimates are on headed paper addressed to your home.
6. money before work completed. if they want to pay garage rather then you, then payment to garage before work started.
if they then say no. u have recorded proof of the accident which u can use with the insurance and if needed in court.
hope this helps. Abs

If you intend to make the contents of the call available to a third party then you must inform the recipient that the call is being recorded.
#14: Re: Had a bump :( Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:34 am ---- Someone reacently went into the back of my wife, no problems with insurance etc. We were given a BRAND NEW MINI (9 miles on the clock) as a hire car. Someone drove into the rear door which is going to cost us £500! They did this in a carpark and didnt leave any info. At least you know whos done it, Get onto your insurance.
Any pics of the damage?

You won't loose any no claims as the fault is 100% his and your premiums won't go up by much at all if any if you stay with your current insurer.
