#1: Some T***** tried to break into my car Author: Stanton, Location: Guildford PostPosted: Thu Jul 05, 2012 4:07 pm
    ----
I'm driving around Europe with a few mates in the 206 and came back to the car in Berlin earlier and someone had busted the lock off the drivers door (3-door) and exposed the hook that just pops the lock open. Think the alarm scared them off as it was in a residential area and fortunately my headunit etc was not taken... weird in itself!

I need to replace the lock barrel urgently as I'm still travelling around for another month and really don't want to have my car being vulnerable to even the most inept thief. How easy is this to replace, what is the general cost and I think I might try finding breakers yards/junk yards in Prague or Poland where I am currently and where I'm going next. Do any of you have any advice or info on the process of changing the lock? Considering getting a metal plate welded on the door just for the security, even though the aesthetics will be terrible afterwards but I don't think I have a choice.. Really not worth even considering insurance here, there's nothing they can do that I can't if needs must.

Any help will be massively appreciated,

Cheers

Due to the circumstances I'm really not too bothered about having a working lock, I just need a barrel to fill the hole and improve the security of the car as I can just remove it and replace it with a proper one when I'm back in the UK... If that is possible anyway

You should be able to find someone to weld a plate over the hole for a temp fix until you get home. Then when home you will need to replace it properly and get the door sprayed.

I'd go with that above quick fix and if you got a round metal like a washer ect it wouldn't look to bad at least it won't have the wires exposed

Peugeot main dealer can make a door lock barrel to match the original key.

Special order part from France - 2 week wait.

UK Peugeot main dealer will ask for photo Id & proof of ownership before ordering locks / keys. I've no idea if the European Peugeot dealer network has the same policy.

Same policy exactly.
Cost is around 42 EUR.
But you do get a free, cut blade along with the barrel. Cool

Mean-time bodge it.

go with cartoons idea....just make sure you attach the nut from the inside or anyone will be able to undo it. not implying your stupid..did you find any remainder of the barrel??if yo can get a barrel, or face part of a barrel from a breakers you could also silicone that on temp...will look a little less vunerable than metal plate option. hope your travels have been good apart from that incident. let us know what you decided on.
fingers crossed for your car in meantime.:)

Awesome, thank you guys for getting back to me. Will try cartoons idea and then see if I can order a new barrel to a hostel I'm staying at later in the trip. I'll try and take a photo later of the hole etc itself and also update on how I get it fixed in case anyone ever gets in this situation some point in the future
