#1: How to wire a boot popper?? Author: gdon, Location: London PostPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 3:14 am

So I got this popper a long time ago but havent hada chance to fit it.

what I wanna know is what cable I should connect to which thing. I got the instructions but I wanna make sure I dont mess it up.

can anyone tell me what the brown cable is gonna be used for. the blue and red cables need to be extended for sure so would the brown cable be for that purpose???

as much info would be much appreciated, thanks

here are the instructions and the kit

Looks that way to me - use it wherever you need to extend any of the wires (looks like mainly the wires from fuse to relay, fuse to switch, switch to relay, and relay to solenoid might need extensions (depending on where you place the components.

The wire to/from switch doesn't need to be as thick - but if you go with thinner wiring for the switch then do add a separate fuse (of suitably lesser capacity than the 10A included) so you don't risk a short to ground in the thinner wire possibly causing it to heat up and cause damage (potentially fire) without blowing the 10A fuse.

If your wiring it in to a switch make sure its wired so if the ignition is ON the switch is disabled.

You dont want the boot opening while driving if the switch is knocked by accident.

thanks for that, just checked and this brown wire wont be long enough to use to extend the wiring so ill get same thickness red wire and avoid putting in another fuse.

just wanted to clarify another point, do i have to earth it just from the green wire???

Terminal 86 on the relay needs to be grounded for the relay to be able to work...

Why buy a kit, just take the original locking solenoid off the boot (you don't have a handle anymore) and mod your own bracket for it then just wire a push button to the ignition

Cost me around £3 to do

How would i be able to do that?? Ive already installed this kit and its all working. Theonly thing is that since my boot was welded smoothed, so its pretty heavy.
