#1: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:37 am ---- On the GTI 180 there are two ignition stages, you turn the key a tiny bit and all the lights (seat belt light, ABS light etc) on the dashboard stay lit.
You turn it a little bit more and most of the icons disappear, the engine and the ABS icons still stay lit, however.
When I turn it again and start the engine they all go off.
But on the 'second ignition stage' when I take my seat belt off for example, it lights up immediately. When I put it back on, the light goes away. However, the engine and the ABS (even when handbrake is off) lights ONLY go out when I start the engine.
Do I have a problem or do these lights just light being stubborn until the engine has been started?
ALSO I have one other question. Is there any way to check that my car is definitely the GTI 180 version? It has it on the back of the car etc etc but I just don't understand why I can't get any less than 10 seconds 0-60... and people on youtube like that Luke guy on here get like 6.5 (even the official figures are 7.5). Fair enough some of them have exhausts and stuff but nothing can justify a difference of 3.5 seconds imo...
Finally, where can I download a user manual for my car? I wasn't given one when I bought the car and I can't find one on the peugeot website (unless I'm thick)
Oh and question number 4 sorry. Does it actually do any good to rev the car to like 6-7k revs? Someone said the car is meant to be revved that high but my last car was a 1.2 corsa and if I heard a sound like that the engine would probably blow up. I'm not gonna do any harm by revving it around 6-7k revs when going quick am I?
Thanks guys

In fact, I have three questions Author: Barking, Location: sarcasm-in-shedloadsPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:47 am ---- On the 'how do I know my car is a GTI 180' front - it has a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold which is easily seen at the front of the engine. That's probably the easiest visible thing (most other things are easily swapped to/from other 206's). Obviously an HPI check will also tell you what car you've got.
The 0-60 times - take the ESR off and it'll be quicker. Best time on my old 180 (54-plate) was 7.1 seconds. It's just practice to get it lower (and obviously a long enough private airstrip).
User manual - do you actually need one? It's a 206 - it will break down, but is easily fixed. Last edited by Barking on Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:48 am; edited 1 time in total

How do I take the ESR and Traction Control off?
I am totally clueless about cars, maybe I'll learn a lot from you guys over time!
This is why I wanted a manual lol

Press & hold the ESP button to the right next to the passenger airbag disarm keyswitch BUT im pretty sure it will turn itself back on again if you go over a certain speed.

As for lack off performance.
Ngk plugs will kill performance.
Open cone filters also kills performance on the 180 mine hated them.
Possible vvt sensor problem.

#8: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: Barking, Location: sarcasm-in-shedloadsPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:59 am ---- ps: the car has a rev limiter, so you won't damage the engine

Well not very easily unless you go from 5th to say 2nd at high speed
#10: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:01 am ---- Give me a minute Nick and I'll flip the bonnet up and take a pic...
You must be brilliant if you can tell a lot just by looking in the hood
#11: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:09 am ---- You can download a manual from Peugeot online.
#12: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:17 am ---- Nick, is this what you wanted?
Any problems?
#13: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: Barking, Location: sarcasm-in-shedloadsPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:20 am ---- That's a 180 engine
#14: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: 206boyracer, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:20 am ---- That's a 180.
#15: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: Matt, Posted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:49 am ---- It's normal for those lights to come on and go off when they do.
That's defo a 180 lump.
Peugeot online for the manual.
As for revving 6/7k, it should be fine as it has a limiter in place.
#16: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:49 am ---- Thank you guys How on earth can you tell? lol.
I think I need to take engineering/mechanics courses haha
No idea why people can do 60mph in like 3 seconds faster then!
Just out of curiosity I timed how long it taken to get from 70 to 80 in 5th gear - 4.5 seconds
Does that sound right?

Ye defo a 180 like I said Ngk plugs in a 180 will kill performance this could be we're your problem is. U should be useing bosch super 4s.
How does it accelerate is it smooth power delivery constant up to about 4k then slightly picks up more about 4k?
And also official 0-60 times are done in perfect dry conditions with good tyres a new car and a experienced test driver.

The exhaust manifold is not at the front, its at the rear on the gti lumps.

8v engines
16v engine - XSi
GTi
GTi 180
#20: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: Johnbyron, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:03 am ---- Lights normally do that
Yeah you have a 180 so yeah rev it as high as you like It would be unlikely for it do go bang unless obveously if you sat on the rev limiter for ages which would be pointless haha
As for NGK plugs and 0-60 times, I have a 180 running NGK plugs and it hasn't "killed" my performance :'-) I still get 0-60 in about 7 seconds with traction control off but I have yet to find out if the myth is true about NGK plugs nackering your coil pack and messing with the electrics etc
#21: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: NICKST, Location: Little hulton (worsley)Posted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:00 pm ---- It's not a myth mine had Ngks in it for 2years after buying it then decided to get genuine parts from Peugeot and did a service it was more responsive and seemed to rev better.
Peugeot wouldn't recommend and use them there selfs if the could use any old plug and save money.

those 4 metal pipes at the front that go from the engine block. I presumed it was a 4-2-1, but not actually seen where they go.
What's wrong? The inlet manifold?
#24: Re: Do I have a problem? In fact, I have three questions Author: NICKST, Location: Little hulton (worsley)Posted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:46 pm ---- He means you wrong because it's not a 4-2-1 manifold you can see at the front as its located at the back off the engine you can see the inlet manifold which is the reason it's connected to the tb and the airbox.

ah.ok. I was wrong - but it is the most obvious 180 engine feature, which is correct lol
