#1: Dave's Painting Author: 206Mike, Location: ManchesterPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2012 11:26 am ---- Well, took the plunge and decided to ask Dave, a local member to sort out my completely shagged alloys. The kerbing from the previous owner was astonishing and it had been used and abused.
Having already traded with Dave before, picking up a set of lexus lights off him, i set down and borrowed his Fox Racing alloys whilst he took mine (when we eventually worked out that the tyres were directional!)
After my Fox Racing experience, easily gaining 20bhp and winning "Ardest Ride" at the local mcdonalds he text me saying they were completed and ready to be picked up. So today came, and i nipped down before work to get everything sorted. After realising i should have started my shift whilst changing the wheels we finally got them on and I said bye.
Then the s**t hit the fan. Knowing how blind me and dave are with this whole 'directional tyre' fandangle the whole car sounded like a harpooned walrus on the motorway. After the loudest drive of my life got to work and swapped them over
Anyone who's talked or traded with Dave before knows he is an encyclopedia of 206's, from jacking points to this and that. Definateley recommend to anyone in the NW.

The paint finish is bloody good, I'm sure they are pretty glossy judging by how flat the paint is (no ripples), even if they arnt a blob of polish would soon shine them up
#10: Re: Dave's Painting Author: BioCustoms, Location: LeedsPosted: Sat Jul 21, 2012 5:14 am ---- maybe ye right as confirmed in previous posts pictures can be very missleading ... no ripples does not mean anything there's 100s of things to take in to consideration when thinking of gloss such as lacquer age and quality, flatting grades, humidity, enviroment/hot or cold ect then just ripples, and ye shouldnt have to polish them after they have just been painted lol specialy if the guy has spent good money getting them done .... i wonder what flatting grades he has used .... please dont miss read my post in a bad way im just curious lol
#11: Re: Dave's Painting Author: Johnbyron, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:54 am ---- Spratty - I see what your saying but like you say it's brand new paint, as far as I'm aware dave hasn't been doing this long as a business (I could be wrong tho) he might just be starting up some will find that Minnie things may need adjusting to suit different jobs, but what I am sure of is anybody who's sprays a product for any price would only give the product back to the customer with atleast an acceptable finish sometimes I look at the finish I get and have to flat it out with 2000 grits wet and dry then polish them up because I sometimes I'm not happy with the ripples etc that you et in all paintwork, and sometime I get a bit of overspray which I remove before giving the product back to the customer it's hard to tell a paint finish via a picture like you said tho
#12: Re: Dave's Painting Author: 206Mike, Location: ManchesterPosted: Sat Jul 21, 2012 9:08 am ---- True John, the pictures really don't do them justice.
Shame I have to clean the rest of the car now to keep it all looking nice
I'm not sure how long Dave has been doing it but he has a lot of the equipment so i'd say quite a while, plus it's not exactly something you do perfect first time, so he must have had a lot of practice
#13: Re: Dave's Painting Author: mattvaretto, Location: BuryPosted: Sat Jul 21, 2012 10:39 am ---- I've seen other work he's done (resprayed a front bumper) and finish was superb and near enough a perfect colour match!
