#2: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:05 pm ---- Most tuning garages should be able to try pug1off had all mine done there as you saw at fcs
#3: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Johnbyron, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:15 pm ---- Hmm okay I'll try pug one off , I'm just toying with the idea at the moment but would like to know the difference in price compared to S/C and ITB's, I just don't know what route I'd go down at the minute
#4: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Birk, Location: DoncasterPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:20 pm ---- Tb's with all the usual mods will cost roughly the same a sc kit or turbo.
Nortech performance in goldthorpe can do turbo conversion.
I had my manifold made by them for £600.
#5: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 1:12 pm ---- Dont people struggle with the electrics on the 180's though, I seem to remember Jamie trying to either SC or ITB his 180 but no one could wire the ECU up.
#6: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: DeadEyePaul, Location: Rugby,WarwickshirePosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 1:35 pm ---- I am sure Gary stone could do it for you? He's doing my engine

Lee- I don't dream about things like this I like to do my research and ask for people's opinions, you can't just wake up and go " I'm taking my pug to DP engineering in holland tomorrow and getting it done with no quotes etc and no in depth information about the pros and cons of converting my 180 to turbo" haha that would just be silly
#13: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Johnbyron, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:42 pm ---- Paul- that is..... Emense haha asif that c2 has two v6 engines !!

#21: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Indigo_GTI, Location: AberdeenshirePosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 3:14 pm ---- i've had experience of a turbo 206, a f**king ballache. been to major tuning companies and it still aint right. just bought me an sti as i've lost patience. if you want a car to sit on the drive and look pretty, turbo it, else better get a factory spec motor
#22: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 3:53 pm ---- It depends what you intend on using it for? In all honesty you'd be better off getting a standard turbo engine so it's all oem and (built as standard) say a 207gti?? Then do little bits to it. I also think that would be cheaper thank a £8k+ custom build

still got the same power as the 207 GT though
#26: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 4:24 pm ---- It has indeed, but I do think the newer 207 engine would look tiddyer in the 180 bay.
I wander if that has actually been done yet? I haven't heard of any one using the 207lump in conversions?
Maybe it's expensive to buy any way.

that was a joke really
interface is totally different, so probably need aftermarket ecu to run; just cost too much.
Not sure if 207gti is expensive though; just have a quick look on ebay, around 5K you can get one already
#28: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: simpsonrc, Location: coventryPosted: Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:11 pm ---- don’t use a 207 gti engine, there junk so unreliable

#31: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Fri Jul 27, 2012 2:39 am ---- Realy? I've actualy never heard of any go wrong with them I know 2people with the gti and no problems. I was just thinking if you got a out the factory turbo lump it would be like 'made for it' insed of turboing an engine that shouldn't have one on so would Bd more reliable. But sounds as if it's not that reliable lol.
#32: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Fri Jul 27, 2012 3:15 am ---- I've heard the cam belt/chain? slips on them, still could be worse could be a Toyota Engine.
#33: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Jul 27, 2012 5:06 am ---- Sod the 207 GTi...use its engine - or the one from a Cooper S. Small, light and although not sure how an aftermarket ECU can deal with direct injection, I think it would be a great conversion. I'd certainly consider it as an option.

James (dilton) surely got no luck with the gti
#35: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: simpsonrc, Location: coventryPosted: Fri Jul 27, 2012 1:06 pm ---- I’m not a big fan of any of the EP engines doesn’t matter what car there fitted to. Timing chain problems, thermostat housings, cam sensors, vvt solenoid valves, coils, head problems are just some of the issues. I had one with broken piston rings and seen two with the timing chain tensions lose from the factory.

#38: Re: Gti 180 turbo conversion, who does them ?? Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sat Jul 28, 2012 9:09 am ---- The EP engines are utter s**te.
Work this logic out, lets fit a cam pulley thats floating (eg one centre bolt) but not have a woodruff key. Sensible.
The modified tensioner system that costs over £700 doesnt even work, and lets not forget the general 207s love for water ingress.
Oh did i mention that the 207 EP6 (not EP6DT) runs a s***ty MA box?
