#1: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:04 pm ---- Hi
I found a thread on here about rust that occurs on the boot and behind the arch liners on 206s that are about 8 or 9 years old. We all know Ryton factory closed in 2006, so its safe assume all of the UK market 206s were built there until it closed. On these cars I have noticed that the engine bay, behind the arch liners and other hidden areas are painted with colour coat on these cars.
My car is a 2007 model and was built in France, and these areas are not painted the same like Ryton built 206s. Instead it has what appears to primer with lacquer, no colour coat.
What I'm wondering is, will my car's bodyshell but more exposed to rust in these hidden areas due to lack of colour coat? The main areas are painted properly of course, and the paint quality is good. But its almost as if they said "this one's going to a customer in England, skimp on production costs!"

#3: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:13 pm ---- Thanks for clearing that up, I always wondered why that happened
I do get the impression that Ryton taken more attention to detail, to paint the engine bay and other tucked away areas, as apposed to the factories in France!

#8: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: V9977, Location: Athens, GreecePosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 12:01 pm ---- @Andrew, our late-2007 TU3 car is a dream compared to my 2001 TU3JP.
I would have thought any production-floor and design issues have been sorted by that stage.
#9: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: DeadEyePaul, Location: Rugby,WarwickshirePosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 1:51 pm ---- I read that a few years after Ryton packed up they moved 206 production to Slovakia then after that.. china
#10: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 2:33 pm ---- 207's were made in France and Slovakia. They didnt move 206 production there.
#11: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 3:07 pm ---- All of the labels on my car, including the door label with colour code; any tags on the wiring or stickers on parts are written in French. This and the fact that wikipedia doesn't list Slovakia as manufacturer for 206s, and has Poissy and Mulhouse lead me to beleive it was French made
Then again it is wikipedia and might not be accurate
#12: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: V9977, Location: Athens, GreecePosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 5:19 pm ---- I think 'VF' at the start of the VIN = made in France.

Nope.
#15: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 12:57 am ---- VF doesnt mean that at all. All RHD non-CC 206's were made in Ryton - at least until it closed.
#16: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 2:50 am ---- mine was VF and it is make in coventry
#17: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:12 am ---- Mine is VF & was built ( badly ) at Ryton
#18: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: V9977, Location: Athens, GreecePosted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:42 am ---- OK, cancel that then.
For Europe is shows headquarters not actual place of manufacture.
#19: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 8:58 am ---- I've just had a response from my local Peugeot, here is part of the email:
"I can confirm that your vehicle was built in Mulhouse France. This is determined by the last numbers in
the build code.It does vary on how the build number is displayed, but on the white label which is on the
door or door pillar the build code is displayed. The first 5 numbers relate to technical reference and the first
2 of the following number is where it was built. In the case of your vehicle 88 signifies Mulhouse."
#20: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 10:56 am ---- You pestered the dealer just for that???
#21: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 10:57 am ---- cool. never expect they will get back to you.
#22: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 11:20 am ---- They must have been having a quiet day.

#25: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 6:27 pm ---- There is a guy who works there in service that has helped me out over the years, I asked him this in an email along with some other things. My local Peugeot are pretty good at helping me solve things via email I can't find the answer for on here - so it's not a case of pestering just for that, I pester about multiple things at once
#26: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: V9977, Location: Athens, GreecePosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:17 pm ---- All other plant codes please.
#27: Re: Coventry vs French built 206s? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Aug 18, 2012 4:53 am ---- I'll get on that for you
