#1: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Finished? Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 12:12 pm ---- I'm a new member on here so I just thought I'd post a few pictures of the small project I'm doing.
It's a black 2001 (Y) GLX. At the minute I'm just trying to get it back to standard so it'll pass the MOT and then I'll be looking at doing some basic modifications to it. It also hasn't got any wheels, so I'm deciding whether to get some standard cheap steelies or get some second hand Peugeot wheels (Nimrods/Vortex's etc).
First thing I've tackled is the bodywork. The back bumper was badly cracked, drivers door is dented above the wing mirror, drivers door frame/pillar is dented (it was also sticking out so wouldn't pass the MOT), drivers side wing/arch is dented and the passenger side wing/mirror was replaced by a previous owner, but never painted, so started to rust, so that'll be painted as well.
Few pics to start -
Once the bodywork is finished I'll be looking at getting some wheels and some minor mods.
I'll keep updating on here anyway.

#3: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Tue Aug 21, 2012 2:02 pm ---- Quick update on the progress...
Finally got round to filling and shaping the drivers door pillar, so that's got primer on it and is ready for paint now. The drivers door has also been shaped and is now ready for paint, so all of the panels are ready for paint now.
I managed to find a set of steelies that fit the car, so I've decided to keep these for now and just make them look a bit better by spraying them matte black. As I said before, I'll be looking to get some Peugeot wheels eventually, but these will do for now.
The wheels are primed and ready for the matte black paint. My dad thinks they'll look better if I leave them grey !
Thanks for looking!
Peace!

Quick Update...
As I said before, the rear bumper has been taken off because of a big crack on the drivers side corner, which has now been repaired and painted:
The pillar has also been repaired and painted:
The door has also been repaired and painted:
The steelies have been nicely refurbed:
And the drivers side wing has been painted and lacquered:
Once the car is ready for the MOT, I think it'll need a good clean and valet...
Just need to get the rest of the panels lacquered and get some tyres for the MOT, and it'll be pretty much finished!
Plans for the future?
I've decided I'm going to go for a tidy/slightly modified look. I haven't got the time to properly modify it in a style I would like (euro/smooth), but at the same time I think it'll look pretty boring just standard. The steelies are only temporary because I'm looking at getting some Nimrods, and I've already debadged the boot to give it a smoother look. After that, I might look at getting some phase 2 lamps front and back depending on how easy they are to swap.
Anyway, thanks for looking!

I might do that with mine
#9: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Sep 01, 2012 2:15 pm ---- Yeah the steelies do look a bit better with a bit of paint!
Quick Update...
Managed to get everything lacquered today, so the car is ready to be put back together tomorrow. Got the back bumper back on today as well, so it's already looking a bit better.
Also got some new tyres because two of the original ones were completely bald.

Going back again tomorrow to put the car back together, and then on monday the wheels will be balanced because of the new tyres, then hopefully it'll be MOT'd by the end of the week.
Thanks for looking!

when you sprayed the pillar how much of it did you re paint? just where yo repaired? what ccolour code is your car? looks gloss and i didnt think you laqured gloss?
#11: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Sep 01, 2012 6:04 pm ---- Yeah it's an old Fiesta, but it's not mine. It's a project that my Dad's mate is doing.
Most of the paint repair work was done by my Dad. He does car bodywork for a living, and mostly only does small to medium repairs (SMART Repairs).
Most of the panels were repaired by just painting the damaged area and then blending into the rest of the panel. The only ones that weren't done this way were the wings, because both of them needed fully painting.
I'm not sure what the paint code is, but it's just a solid black colour. When my dad looked at the paint code and looked at the ingredients for the mix, there were no metallic flakes or anything, just solid black. When it comes to lacquering, it depends on which paint you buy. I'm not an expert on paints, but I'm pretty sure you can buy some paints that can be sprayed straight on and don't need lacquer, and some paints that need lacquer afterwards. The paint system my dad uses needs lacquer for most of the painting that you do.
For the wheels we used a matte/satin black paint, which we sprayed straight on, and didn't lacquer, which gave it the satin finish.
Thanks for looking!
Peace!

Well, you have just answered all my questions
You and your dad have done a good job, it looks so shiny
My drivers door needs a respray as it has lacquer peel and looks shocking, seeing yours makes me want to sort mine out all the more
Keep us up to date!

Update...
Managed to get a lot of the car put together today, both of the wings are on, the drivers door is back on and the front bumper is back on.
Fitted the mirror back onto the driver's door first -
When putting the drivers door and wing back on, I made the mistake of putting the wing on first, which covered the bolts that hold the door on -
So I had to remove the wing, fit the door, and then put the wing back on again.
Got the door and wing back on, then fitted the bumper -
I quickly fitted one of the wheels as well, just to see how they looked on the car. I think it looks pretty good with the black wheels on the black car -
I was planning on fitting everything back together today, but when I tried to fit the drivers headlight, two of the brackets were broken, so I'm going to have to go somewhere to get a new one. I'll probably go to a scrapyard or something and try and find a decent one. I also need to get a new passenger seat because the reclining mechanism on mine has broken.
I'm off on Wednesday and Thursday this week, so I'll probably get some work done then and post another update.
Thanks for looking!
Peace!

#16: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Uz, Location: No Man's LandPosted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 3:42 am ---- Looking good mate... but if this was my car I'd honestly colour code the whole car. So, bumper cowlings, door strips, roof gutter strips, rear wiper are and anything else that is plastic on the exterior.
#17: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:19 am ---- Yeah I was thinking of colour coding everything, but decided not to.
If the car was a different colour I would have probably done it because the plastics would have really stood out, but because the car is black, the plastics don't look too bad as long as I keep them clean

Did you mean the headlights or the seats?
Well, to be honest, I was thinking about upgrading both
At the moment though, I haven't got the money to do anything like upgrade the headlights or seats, I just need to get it through the MOT as soon as possible.
Once I've saved some money I'll be starting off by giving it a good service, then getting some alloys (Nimrods or Siroccos) and then some other bits and pieces, maybe new headlights and sport bumpers.
Peace!

my car is black and after i cc the door strips looked much better
#20: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Sep 22, 2012 10:24 am ---- Update!
I've been to do work on the car over the past couple of weeks, so this will be like 3 updates in one!
While I was waiting to get the headlight delivered, I decided to clean up the engine bay because it was looking quite tired:
Before:
After:
Then the headlight got delivered, so the headlights were fitted and the grille was also fitted:
Once we had fitted everything back together, it was ready for the MOT, so we sent it to the garage.
The result was...
It failed on:
Both wishbones
Number plate lights (forgot to check them myself)
Windscreen wiper blades
Nearside rear brake 'showing little or no effort'
So...
Out with the old:
And in with the new:
We then went on to diagnose the problem with the rear brake. It turned out it was the cylinder that had stopped working.
Out with the old:
In with the new:
By the time we had finished, the garage was closed so we couldn't put it through the retest, so I decided to do something a bit random.
I decided to start colour coding the interior. The glove box handle and door pull handles were already black:
But the air vents and door opener handles were grey:
So I decided to spray them black to match the other handles. The finish didn't come out that good, but I'm not really bothered to be fair, it was only a quick 5 minute job.
So now the handles all match:
I'm planning on doing the centre console soon to match the rest of the black in the interior.
The car is starting to look a bit better now:
I've also recently ordered some 20mm spacers for the back wheels because they sit so far in the arches it looks ridiculous:
I think once the spacers are on it'll look a lot better.
I've been back at home for a couple of days, so my dad has had to send it in for the MOT re-test, so I'm just waiting to hear whether it has passed or not. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for looking guys.
Peace!
#21: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Sep 29, 2012 7:33 am ---- It's passed the MOT!
Got the car insured and taxed so it's finally on the road.
After driving it for a couple of days, I've noticed the fuelling is slightly dodgy and the tracking is also slightly out still. Other than that, It's fine.
Still waiting for my spacers to arrive, then I'm looking at getting a new interior and then I'll be saving up for a set of Nimrods.
I'll be back with an update soon.
Peace!
#22: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Tue Oct 02, 2012 1:26 pm ---- Quick Update -
So, both of the front seats were broken. The passenger side wouldn't fold to let people in the back, and the runners on the drivers side weren't locking properly, so the seat would slide backwards and forwards while I was driving. Not easy to drive like this!
So, after a quick search on eBay, my girlfriend stumbled across a full GTI interior. Paid £70 for the lot, which didn't seem bad, considering some guys were charging £60 for just a standard single seat.
This is the original interior:
This is the interior I bought:
I was off work today so I spent the day fitting it into the car. It was actually quite easy, the hardest part turned out to be fitting the rear door cards because you have to unbolt all of the seatbelts in order to thread them through the holes in the door cards and rear boot trim. Other than that it was fairly straight forward.
I also sprayed the dial surround above the steering wheel to match the darker plastics on the new doorcards. Eventually I want to match the whole dashboard to the darker grey colour.
How the interior looks now:
Next on the list should be the spacers for the back wheels. They still haven't been delivered yet but I'm getting on the case to see where they are.
I also decided to take a picture to take part in the September Shot of the Month:
I'll update again soon.
Thanks for looking!
Peace!
#23: Re: New Member - 206 Minor Project - Spacers Fitted Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Oct 10, 2012 6:04 am ---- Update
My spacers finally arrived in the post, so got them fitted today and the car looks a lot better now.
Before:
After:
I think the car looks a lot better now with the spacers on.
Next thing to get sorted is a fuelling issue with the engine, then hopefully I'll start to do a bit more modifying.
I'll keep updating soon.
Peace!
#24: Re: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Finished-ish Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 8:19 am ---- Not really an update, just thought I'd post a few pictures of the car now that it's on the road and sort-of finished.
I've still got quite a few plans for the car because It still looks a bit too standard, but I'm happy with how it looks for a while.
Wish list:
New Numberplates (original ones are starting to look a bit tired - check out the last pic)
Ph2 boot strip
Nimrods (If I can find some I can afford - I like the steelies but they look a little bit too ratty)
Maybe colour coding
Maybe sport bumpers
Pics for now:
I'll keep updating if anything changes!
Peace!
#25: Re: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Nimrods and Boot Strip Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Mar 27, 2013 1:10 pm ---- I haven't updated in a long time, mainly because I haven't done anything to the car.
So, I'm updating because I've finally got round to getting a set of Nimrods and a Phase 2 Boot Strip.
I got the Nimrods after placing a 'wanted' thread on here (thanks to Gaffa), but some of the wheels were in need of a good refurb.
I had loads of ideas about what colour to spray the wheels, but after lots of thinking, I decided to do something completely different and keep them silver.
This is a picture of the worst wheel before I refurbed them - you can see where the paint has flaked from the corrosion. The other wheels were not as bad.
The wheels look a lot better now. Quick picture while they were drying under a heat lamp:
I forgot to get proper picture when it wasn't under the lamp!
I got the bootstrip from a local breakers. When I got it, it was the right colour, but had a few scratches. I forgot to get a picture of how it looked before, but I did get a picture during the prep, and after it was painted:
Painted:
Fitted:
Next thing on my shopping list is a new set of number plates because mine are looking a bit tatty. Other than that, I think the car is mostly finished now.
I'll give it a good clean (as soon as we get some better weather) and then take some proper photos and post them on here.
Thanks for looking!
Peace!

#27: Re: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Finished? Author: Holderness, Location: Paull, Near HullPosted: Thu Mar 28, 2013 4:50 am ---- Looks good.
Im rocking the steelies at the mo, but the fact im doing a "206 Rallye D" kinda fits wit the ethos of it all.
I have Partner Steels on, where the centre sits in a bit more than the standard 206 ones.
#28: Re: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Finished? Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Thu Mar 28, 2013 5:14 am ---- Yeah I would have liked to do a full 'Rallye' style thing, but I decided to just go with the Clean/Smooth look instead.
In the future I might spray the wheels black, but for now I like how it looks with them silver. Looks nice and clean.
Cheers for the comments!
#29: Re: Resist - 206 Minor Project - Finished? Author: Resist, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Apr 06, 2013 7:33 am ---- OK, It's time for some proper pictures of the car now that it's finished.
Last update I mentioned that I'd refurbed the wheels. Here's a proper photo:
Don't really need photos of the other wheels, they all look the same
Pictures of the car:
I'm not planning on making any other major changes to the car, so I probably won't be updating any time soon. I'll probably post photo's in the 'Photoshoot' section every now and again
Thanks for looking!
