#1: Fitting headlights Author: MattyP, Location: PlymouthPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:36 am ---- When fitting new headlights should the garage fitting them ensure the beams meet the mot requirements? Check that the lights have the level adjusters fitted?
Had my original lights fitted few weeks back and the garage fitting them didn't ensure they had the level adjustment mechanisms fitted or even check that the beam's were the correct alignment, as a result, my car has failed the mot and now i have to buy new level adjusters for the lights £135 total from vospers Last edited by MattyP on Wed Aug 22, 2012 12:37 pm; edited 2 times in total

I would expect them to check that the alignment is correct and advise you that they may not pass an MOT due to missing or unserviceable levellers, but as for anything else they would say it's not their problem and they just did what they were paid for. Unfortunately garages have no code of practice for fitting non e marked modifications, so they can pretty much do whatever they want without any comeback on them.

I thought it is common knowledge that any headlight fitted should have the beam checked and adjusted if necessary

One of my old cars had to have the front end corner repaired including a new headlamp fitted, work done by an insurance approved bodyshop - they never bothered with the headlamp beam alignment on the lamp they fitted.
Some mechanics / garages are just to lazy / just cant be arsed to do a proper job.
Why did you get a garage to change your lights is my question?
not competent enough with headlights even if some people think it is easy lol can do other things myself though

switch over you lights and adjust them to where your old ones were sat

He needs to fit the adjustor motors first as these secure the reflector inside the headlamp
