I got a mot advisory # [7.1.2] stating that the front exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases? Will this effect mpg figures?
If i ignore this advisory will that minor problem turn to major problem in the future?
What does a typical garage do to fix this advisory?

depends on where is the leak; if it leak through joint normally they just paste it and re-tighten. if there is a crack they might weld it back or replace.

Some exhaust paste sorted it until I can afford a new cat.

However if it is just a leaking joint, clagg it with exhaust paste, VOSA dont mind that

how much does a typical garage charge for this so I avoid to get stung by a greedy mechanic?
Is this gasket a seal type gasket that stops the leaks?

Doesn't really narrow it down. Is it a join? is it a hole? is it on the manifold or the front pipe? is the catalyst on the front pipe or the centre pipe?
The best way to find it is with your hands. When the engine is cold (to avoid burning yourself accidentally) Start the engine and get a mate to hold a folded cloth over the tail pipe to seal it. Lie underneath the front of the car, should be enough room to get your head under too if it hasn't been lowered and look for the leak. You may see a visible mark, usually soot around a leak, or you may need to place your hand near the pipe and feel for air hitting your hand.
Once you have located the leak then it will be easier to advise on the best course of action to fix it.
If needs be and you're not entirely sure how to describe where the leak is, mark the hole with white chalk or paint, take a picture and post it on here for advice.

I been to national tyres and autocare to sort this problem out and they saying they cant do it because they need the exhaust fitting kit for the 206 which they dont have.
They advise me to go to kwik fit as they might have the kit.
Its leaking at the joint.
Isnt the catalyst location same for all 206 cars?

The front exhaust clamp is cheap and simple to fit (if you can reach) ... I got one from a local motor factors for about £2. Some have one bolt and others two ...
