#1: Air con questions. Author: 206boyracer, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Fri Aug 31, 2012 11:56 am ---- Hi I went to have my air con regassed last weekend and the chap said its leaking. The compressor/condenser is leaking ( can't remember what he said, is there both these? Are they the same thing? )
And also some of the frayon tubes are leaking!
Are all 206 compressors or condensers the same?
Is there a condenser or am I confusing it with something else?
Does anyone have any photos of the parts I'm looking for so I can hunt for them and where are they located?
Also are the frayon tubes easy to change myself or will I have to get it done properly?
Thanks people.

The Compressor compresses the gas that goes into the Condenser. If the condenser is leaking on the tubes then you'll need a new one as there a pig to do on a industrial condenser haha. but if its on a compressor im guessing it'll be on a joint connecting to it so maybe he could braze over it?

The compressor is the pump driven from the drive belt. Although both are not difficult to change it's going to need vacuuming down, leak testing and regas so it's well worth leaving it to a professional air con engineers who should make sure it's all working at top performance before handing it back to you

I was hoping to get all the parts from a scrapyard and fit them myself cheaply. Leak test and regas was about £56. I don't think it's worth spending £500 on it. I'd rather drive with my windows down.

Item 2 is the drier unit (like a cylinder) which contains desicant to absord moisture from the
gas circuit and should be replaced every 5 years in a perfect world.
In any case 500 pounds is a lot of money and I bet the technician is talking about the
compressor underneath.

Would a condenser compressor and tubes from another 206 like the 1.6 or hdi or any other with air con fit a gti?

Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Sat Sep 01, 2012 3:39 am ---- If there's no gas in the system and therefore the system isn't working then they wouldn't be able to know whether the compressor was faulty or not. You need to find out exactly what needs replacing, so go to a proper air con engineer who will give you a good idea what needs replacing, get a written report and an estimate. A condenser and piping could be easy to find. Try to source and fit parts from identical car and then you will need an air con person who knows what they're doing to leak test, vacuum and regas for you. Don't just go to places that just do a recharge, that's no good for you, they are the people who put "con" into air con, go to a proper aircon specialist who can do it properly otherwise you'll throw your money away
#11: Re: Air con questions. Author: 206boyracer, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Sat Sep 01, 2012 3:57 am ---- It was pressure tested and he said the compressor or condenser was leaking. I did have a print but I think the misses has thrown it out.
Would it matter if it's plexed or non plexed?
#12: Re: Air con questions. Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Sat Sep 01, 2012 5:49 am ---- Same advice, you need to go to an aircon engineer who can tell you exactly where it is leaking. You need to know, is it pipes, joints or actual components? A condensor doesn't have any electrical parts
#13: Re: Air con questions. Author: 206boyracer, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:41 pm ---- Are all 206 aircon rads and pipes the same or would I need one from a gti? Found the sheet he said the condenser was leaking and the tubes are not in the best condition. So thought I'd change those as well.
#14: Re: Air con questions. Author: brad-morris, Location: BromsgrovePosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:46 pm ---- i'm guessing he means the tubes that run through the condenser are leaking. in which case the best option is to get a new/scrap one

pipes seem to be around the 30/40 for a s/h set on the bay but they do differ between the models it seems
