i've read that you have to make some modifications to the 180 engine cover to make it fit on a gti.
but what is it that you exactly you have to do?
to me it just seems that you have to use the longer studs from the 180 and not the shorter ones for the gti?
anyone on here fitted that cover?
it looks so much more nice then the gti one.
see if i can get a nice 2nd hand one or something, think the dealer gonna charge me a lot of money for one

this may sounds weird but i tried fitting a 138 cover onto my 180 while i was spraying it and it did actually fit, i needed to use the 138 lock clips so in theory it should just fit if you buy the 180 clips

To get the GTi 180 engine cover to fit on a 'normal' GTi, the mounting points on the GTi rocker cover need to be matched to the acoustic cover on the 180. The 180 holding tags have a different head on them aswell so it's worth buying the rocker covers from a 180 and then it's a 'straight' swap. I've done this conversion before. the rocker cover gaskets are the same in every way but the 180 rocker cover is larger (but that isn't an issue).

If you don't fancy doing the cover change, get a drill and change the hole pattern on the 180 acoustic cover so that it matches with the GTi pattern on the rocker cover and then get GTi 180 clips.

Sorry, forgot to say, if you do change the two rocker covers they need to be off the EW10J4 engine otherwise the gasket's are wrong and they won't fit (so don't buy the rocker covers off anything less than a 2003 ish plate car.)
