#1: Here's a Strange one! Engine Cutting out.. please read. Author: djdan0123, Location: Northampton PostPosted: Wed Sep 05, 2012 1:20 pm

Hi all, im new to this so here goes, brought a 2002 206 1.4 lx 8v off my mum (yes i know sounds gay but listen further) 32000 miles genuine, near mint condition 2 years ago for £2000. She had it 3 years from new, so i know the history. when she had it it had a strange fault, if your accelerating stedilly the engine will cut out the wipers will come on lights will go out and the radio will turn on or off depending what you have it on.

Since my owning of it it has been quite regular normally when clutch is down approaching roundabouts, which is dangerous ofcourse as the powersteering goes and everything. however you can turn the key (if your quick enough) and it will come back to life (most of the time) and you can drive away in whatever gear you are in.

It's been diagnosed (whilst owned by my mum at perrys peugeot) which came up with nothing they replaced a fuse, bloody expensive fuse at £168.97 anyway ive since diagnosed it and still nothing. i have cleaned the idle control valve, no difference, i have cleaned the throttle body. no difference, i have cleaned the main earth and the earth on the gearbox still nothing, it cut out on an mot inspector (thank god) he said earth problem, however there are quite a few.

So i was wondering has anyone experienced the same fault? or is there any known cures? im told its a common one?

Many thanks in advance.

Dan

Common earth fault is on top of gearbox, but this is a well known 206 problem.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I have cleaned up the contacts on top of the box, still no help is it a case of chopping out the earth and putting a new one in or is there an easier fix? Kinda annoying.

I had same problem with the cutting out on my TU3 lump. Battery was on its way out. Put a multimeter on it and see what sort of voltage it's holding. Mine had dropped to 12.4v

The car is post October 2001 so should be multiplexed. You can't just replace the stalks individually. You will need a new comm2000 unit. They can be dismantled and cleaned or repaired, but it's easier to but it's easier to buy a new unit. Normally you find that your lights flashing on when you indicate is the first sign of wear.
If your indicators are flashing fast sometimes, then it could be a dodgy connection on one of the bulbs. Does it only happen when indicating one direction or does it happen on both?

It's actually the wipers in having trouble with, won't wipe at the correct speed unless you wiggle the stalk, it is one complete unit which is about 120£ + which seems quite steep maybe I'm just out of touch with indicators lol! I'm gonna try dismantling them and blowing them out, see if it does anything.

£120 is cheap if it's new. Buy a Valeo from ECP and you're looking at around £150 buy from the dealer and it's over £300. The price has shot up recently.

Woah!! Think I'll just try and clean the connectors up I'll strip it down if it needs soldering or something I can do that, I'll strip it nd see what's what, it's just a pain in the ass along with the cutting out, and this new squeak that's developed coming from the wheel lol!
